@crackurbones

Injecting large DNA molecules for a vax that's only 67% effective???? Really???

"...encode the spike protein of SARS-CoV-2, together with a promoter sequence for turning the gene on..."

"...DNA vaccines ... need to make it all the way to the cell nucleus..."

"...requires a minimum of three doses..."

"...Some researchers have criticized a lack of transparency..."

This reminds me of those apps you see -- like a flashlight app that requires access to all your files plus an internet connection, just so it can make your display really bright. Yeah, right. I believe that. (sarcasm)

These guys are just going to screw it up for everybody, making these suspicious and potentially dangerous DNA (deoxyribonucleic acid) vaccines will tarnish the image of useful mRNA (messenger ribonucleic acid) vaccines and just cause less-educated people to distrust ALL vaccines.

Somebody needs to stop this or at least get out ahead of it and make sure people understand the difference between mRNA vaccines and that DNA shit.

I almost forgot...

ROES = Rail Operations in Eastern Singapore

Those other attributes, like curiosity, work ethic, getting stuff done on time, not harassing the other employees, adequate grooming, someone who fits the company culture -- that can be more important than a good technical fit.

@freemo

I agree. I think we're on the same page here. I'm not sure what you're hiring guys for, but yes they'd need to know what a register is, what a port is, bit-wise instructions, etc., for just about anything. You couldn't hire someone who only used, i.e., Javascript or something like that.

@freemo @lupyuen

The fundamental skill that any engineer or programmer must have is the ability to learn new languages and systems quickly, because they change so quickly. If someone has been busy working in one particular area or in many areas, but not doing the specific work that you are looking for, they may be very experienced, just not on a particular architecture or language or whatever. It just often makes more sense to hire someone and give them a week or so to learn a new language than it does to keep a requisition open for months at a time.

@freemo @lupyuen

With the scarcity of talent, it often takes less time to hire someone and let them come up to speed than if you wait for someone to become available with the exact skill-set you're looking for.

@freemo @lupyuen

Or someone switching to a different architecture. Or someone who is more on the hardware side and wants to do more s/w, etc...

@lucifargundam

With the price of gas these days, I couldn't afford not to have an electric car!

@lucifargundam

Why were you taking the tire off to change the oil???

Maybe the tire was just a diversion so folks wouldn't know you were going to just dump the oil. :)

If you drove an electric car that wouldn't happen. :)

@freemo @lupyuen

It helps to know what the machine is doing, but it really depends on the situation.

These days with the wide diversity of languages and hardware and rapidity of change and scarcity of talent, unless you're hiring for a one-off, you look for someone who can quickly *learn* what you need, not necessary someone who already knows it.

No shuttles in '69. Maybe they meant 1996?

@lucifargundam

Sorry, not trolling. Whenever I see an abbreviation now, I find some unrelated term to match the abbreviation.

The proliferation of abbreviations is one of my pet peeves (see my previous rant/toot on the subject), and this is my way protesting.

You can just ignore it or post what the intended abbreviation disambiguation is.

Thea Van Harbou was not licensed to practice medicine in Argentina.

@bluejay

>"...but also, it is being seeded by the CCP..."

That's what they put in the contrails, COVID-19 seeds to seed the clouds and rain coronavirus down on everybody.

@namark @mew27

They're two different animals. C was developed for minicomputers that had teletypes and terminals connected to them. It was created so programmers didn't have to write everything in assembly language.

Javascript was written a couple decades later, shortly after the browser was invented, when personal computers were just beginning to become connected via the World Wide Web (WWW). They made Javascipt to run in the client browser so that web pages could be more interactive.

(But perhaps you just make the comparison so you could make the joke. :)

@Acer

Correction...

Expression is a noun, so...

expression - a representation of (an idea) in words or other medium

and "preachy" is an adjective, so...

preachy - exhortative about morals (and probably opinionated)
