Type "trending" into the search bar and it will show you a bunch trending bots.

@freemo

Those bots show up in the public local feed. (sign out and goto qoto.org/public and they show up by default)

I think he may have only muted one of the bots, not realizing that they are multiple bots which look similar.

@ceoln

You don't a fucking CW when you swear on qoto, FYI. :ageblobcat:

FYI = for your information

Also, remember to add a description to the image for unsighted people. (Just click "edit" in the upper right corner of the image after it loads.

@cahfka

Most likely it's because you are trying to upload an incompatible image format. Try uploading .jpg or .png, those should work.

WARNING: Innocuous Toot

Good Morning Fedi!

re: uspol

@icedquinn

>"you had a good run but even the fringers are done with you"

who is this addressed to? to the Libertarians or the incumbent parties?

TruthBeTold spoiler – Patsplaining

This one is partially true...

Avril Lavigne is not in the U.S. presidential line of succession and she was born in Canada. But the reason why she is not in the presidential line of succession is because she is a singer and song writer, and is not a U.S. government official at all.

This TruthBeTold is deceiving because it shows a picture of Avril Haines, the Director of National Intelligence, but actually talks about the similarly named Avril Lavigne. (Avril, French for April, is an uncommon name in the US.)

When this toot went out, the DNI was not in the presidential line of succession because it was not a cabinet level position. (Cabinet members are in the line of succession in the order of when the office was established.) However, since I posted this toot, President Biden has elevated the DNI to a cabinet level position. So Congress will likely update the Presidential Succession Act of 1947 to include the DNI.

The tags, explained...

- names of songs written and performed by Avril Lavigne.
- Haines studied theoretical physics at University of Chicago where she received her BS, and for a time pursued a doctorate at Johns Hopkins.

In lieu of retooting my for the new folks, here's a link to my first toots here on qoto (which includes my intro toot):

@daeyoung

The rules and customs vary from instance to instance. Here on qoto, CW's are only required for certian content. (See: qoto.org/about/more#rules)

If someone from another instance is looking at the federated timeline, they're going to see all kinds of stuff anyway.

Also, when did civic participation become offensive?

@daeyoung

>" But Covid no longer occupies the public consciousness anymore"

I don't think that's true. Most people I speak with are very concerned about it, and about how the governent fucked things up. The pandemic is still raging, you know.

Most of those polls are forced choice answers where they didn't even list the pandemic response as one of the choices.

The only one I've found that included the pandemic was a Pew poll (all Pew polls are fiction, BTW), and they used the term "coronavirus outbreak". Who calls it that?

In any case, that fact is that our government has just killed more than a million Americans, so if old media decides to try to sweep those million bodies under the rug, it doesn't change the facts. People should vote based on facts, not illusions.

@daeyoung @RV

p.s. - You don't need put a content warning on political speech here on qoto. We're all adults, we can handle it.

U.S. politics: elections, Democrats

@daeyoung

So the choice is between approving of the killing of a million Americans, or abandoning democracy...

That sucks.

Here's my take...

@RV

@ceoln

Yeah, the official term is "status", both on twitter and here on Mastodon, but nobody uses that term except the programmers.

When I first read the user documentation it keep using the term "status update" and I had no idea what they were talking about, because they never defined what the word "status" was anywhere in the documentation.

Programmers are usually lousey documentation writters.

@CloseReach

>”...would likely make things worse.”

What’s he going to, kill five million Americans?

Not killing a million Americans is a pretty low bar. If the choice is between someone who is responsible for the deaths of a million Americans and a guy who says kooky things, then pick the crazy guy. At least he's a former general in the Army, so his instinct is likely to protect Americans, not kill them.

Also, what those incumbent politicians have done is so egregious, that we must oust them. If not then it will just happen again and it will send a signal that American lives are of less value than profit, power, or whatever motivated those bastards to do that. They should go to prison for what they have done.

@aworldinpages

>"'dadi' is for paternal grandmother"

Yes, that's right, I messed up.

I think the hypothesis is sound, though.

@doctorsdilemma

Too late...

By virtue of your posting of a toot, you're already a duly-sworn Fedi-citizen.

(Dual citizenship is fine, though.) 😄
