I hope that makes sense...
The problem with allowing people to change their toots while keeping subsequent responses linked to them, is that those subsequent responses then would be based on a statement that may have changed. E.g....
Alice toots, "I like Madonna. How about you?"
Then Bob responds, "Yeah, me too."
Then Alice edits her toot to say, "I hate Madonna. How about you?"
Then Alice is able to change what Bob is saying. Yes, you could have some elaborate revision system, but most people browsing the timeline are not going to dig into the revision history and they'll just think that Bob hates Madonna or whatever.
Also, a complex revision system makes it harder to use and understand.
The best way to do it is to edit your toots quick enough before there are any subsequent responses. If someone has already responded you can clarify what you've said in another toot in the thread, or you can delete/edit, which orphans subsequent toots (and then you should apologize to those folks for orphaning their toots).
No, you just delete and redraft. But it puts the existing text in the edit window for you, so it feels like you are just editing the toot.
There were only 48 states when he was born.
You're doing just fine so far.
Here's an intro video for Mastodon:

(the video was made four years ago, but it's a very good general intro)
And here's a page about this specific instance (qoto):
Welcome!
That's exactly what capitalism is supposed to do, put a value on stuff via price discovery in a free market. Doesn't always work that way, but that's the principle.
There aren't that many bots here on qoto, you can just block them as you see them and before long you'll have a clean timeline.
Out on the federated timeline, it's pretty much the wild west and I just block what I can, but mostly just put up with it and use the federated timeline only for occasional excursions of exploration and discovery.
I have the opposite problem, dyslexia, so I appreciate *concise* videos, as least for some things. Text is good if you already know everything except for one step, for example, then you can scan and find what you need.
No, I definitely don't have the math skills, I just know how to use google.
I think special relativity is relatively easy (pun intended), it's just algebra and trig., but GR uses much more exotic math. Apparently Einstein had to consult with a mathematician to learn Riemannian geometry and differential geometry in order to figure out his field equations.
Here's NASA site for Artemis I:

And starting at about 7:15am EST, tomorrow, Monday 2022/11/21, NASA TV will be covering it's approach/flyby:
The effects from gravity are usually more than the effects from Special Relativity for stuff in space, but the ISS is only about 250 miles up so the gravitational field is not much different at that height. The GPS satellites are in Medium Earth Orbit which is high enough so that the gravity component dominates -- their clocks advance 38us per day compared to Earth clocks.
Yeah, I don't know either. Just guessing, but it's not child porn, there is none here, so it's got be something else.
Maybe because of all the new instances, they can be more selective now? You were recently talking about advancing/improving the code so I thought that might be it. I don't write open source code, I just write for myself so I really don't understand the politics of that at all.
qoto is an instance for STEM professionals, but not necessarily just STEM content.
I'm retired so my interests are not just science and tech anymore, so maybe I tend to toot stuff that's all over the place. I try to tie it into science/tech whenever possible, though, like my #/caturday toot today and last Saturday.
Re the political stuff, there are folks here who are all over the spectrum, so if you want to discuss/debate issues/philosophies, you're sure to find people who like to do that.
Looking over your toots, I think you're fine and they have a nice balance. I notice that new folks tend to do more boosting, which makes sense because they're still getting a feel for things prior to putting out a bunch of their own content.
I hope you enjoy qoto and make it your Mastodon home.
I enjoy action films like this.
(ps - It's actually caturday, not dogsofmasto day, but I won't tell anyone.)
I'm just a geek.

If I favorite your toot, it doesn't mean that I feel your toot is my favorite toot. It means that I'm letting you know that I saw your toot, probably read it, and maybe even liked it (but not necessarily).

I block anyone who:
- uses racial, ageist, religious, ethnic, LGBT epithets
- uses the word "gay" derisively
- posts child porn
- posts any other racism, ageism or homophobia
- posts ambiguous cases of the above
- boosts or posts quotations of any of the above
(People who use the word "woke" in a derogatory manner are assumed to be pro-racist.)
