I love it when someone finds out I’m an #atheist and cracks some lame joke about how you never have to ask, atheists & vegans will always tell you they’re atheist or #vegan.
But last I checked, atheists & vegans don’t go around knocking on doors, wearing atheist & vegan symbols on a necklace or erecting 200 ft highway-side reminders that we exist. We certainly don’t vote or lobby for policies that would force you to live by our rules. No, lovelies, that’s Christianity.

Call me old-fashioned but when it comes to COVID-19, I'd still prefer not to f*ck around and find out.
Some folks insist that wearing a mask in crowds and inside public spaces is an overreaction— this despite a preponderance of evidence showing microvascular damage from even mild COVID infections.
I'll keep wearing my mask, thank you very much.
I *think* (but I don't know) that it would quickly download previews over the wire based on current tag, and I *think* (but don't know) that it simply in-line sends the full image AFTER downloading it to your phone from the site FIRST, which is not happy if you worry about data or are out of data coverage.
I'm not even sure if Gify has an app that does what I think it does. But it's worth a look. :)
I can do better. I can be better. But tools to support better habits go a long way. :)

I'd be happy to look into a way to do this, it sounds important and it really hit home for me. I forget to add descriptions a lot and I know I will try not to forget int he future.

In the eat of discussion, or wanting to put up what I think is an appropriate meme, "Hey do this" goes right past me until AFTER I send the image. Of the things I really wish I could edit, "Damn, I forgot alt tags" is pretty high on my list.
@bekieark mentions a "Are you sure you want to post this image without a description" too. If there were a setting in my Mastodon web skin, I'd mash that setting to remind me. @freemo, is that something even possible? A skin on the website for, "Hey, you forgot your image description, are you sure," as a setting?

I do like it here on Mastodon, but the huge influx of people from Twitter means there are far fewer image descriptions than from even a couple of weeks ago. I’d love to tell every one of them about this, but quite frankly there are so many I don’t have the patience. I’d dearly love it if apps could block posts unless an image description was added to every photo, but I suppose that’s too much to hope for. I’m feeling really excluded from so many conversations. It’s getting as bad as Twitter.

If you enjoy someone's post on #Mastodon go ahead and click the star. If someone tells you that's meaningless because there's no #algorithm, ignore them. Sure, boost the post too if you want others to also see the post, but don't think telling someone you like what they posted is somehow unimportant. In real life I don't tell someone, "good job," or "well said," or "I love that," for the sake of some algorithm, I do it because I'm human and they are too. It's fundamental to being truly social.
You have good feedback. I am not aware of anyone following me with visual impairment. And without someone saying so, I've no feedback, only guesses from "what I have heard." I also agree I find them "slightly annoying" although not annoying enough to me to comment on it. While there are many considerations, accessibility ranks pretty high on my personal list.
But that is *JUST* my personal list. I don't find it appropriate for me to push my *personal* list on anyone else.

I've seen posts from people using #screenreaders saying that inline hashtags don't really bother them. They're already used to filtering out the extra stuff the screen readers say that this is practically a non-issue - that's what one screenreader users whose post got boosted to my timeline said anyway.
Still, I find overuse of them annoying even as a sighted reader, and try to have only one or two inline and the rest at the end of the post, just as a matter of preference.

Good! It sounds like you have technical expertise, which is your most critical resource. That, and your interest in learning to grow your expertise.
To "build" my Spigot server (I think also true of code forks from Spigot such as PaperMC) I go to the directory on my Windows machine, I right-click inside the directory and select "Git Bas Here" and I drop to a MINGW64 prompt... a way to run "*NIX-like" on Windows. I'm at a "$" prompt, I curser up twice to bring back this one line: "$ java -jar BuildTools.jar --rev 1.19.2"
That's it. BuildTools.jar handles the rest. I just sit & wait for the server to rebuild to the latest update pulled from GIT.
The result for me is "spigot-1.19.2.jar". I transfer that file to ExtraVM while shutting my existing server down and making a backup. They use http://www.multicraft.org/ which is a web based "server manager". It lets them manage multiple servers and it an interface for JUST the server I manage, including options to start and stop it without having to deal with command line (and exposing their system to a shell).
If you are only doing this on a "headless" machine, you *should* be using sftp out-of-habit, but you do *NOT* need multicraft. In my opinion, it just adds another layer of "something I have to deal with," although it is an option if you wish to kick the tires, as it were.
I download my backup and rename "java17.jar" (the old binary) to "java17.jar~", then "spigot-1.19.2.jar" to "java17.jar" which is how Multicraft knows to trigger Java17 on the host... and let it run.
All that's Java. If everyone is happy with Bedrock, they won't know what they are missing and won't care. You can run https://www.minecraft.net/en-us/download/server/bedrock without any of that complexity. What you get is all you're going to get, but it's enough. You don't get plugins like with Spigot and such, but then you don't have the flexibility of using data packs like you can download with https://vanillatweaks.net/ (works also with base Java Server) or plugins (Only Spigot & forks of it) like you find here: https://www.spigotmc.org/resources/
You CAN use SOME Bedrock addons, but paid resource packs are tied to YOUR account and won't work on a Bedrock server. Special Bedrock Maps and such? I don't know. Someone else might clarify more. Spigot has a far higher confidence factor of "I have control, I do what I want."
https://geysermc.org/ lets you have a mixed Bedrock/ Java environment. It does have "stuff you have to know and do", but THAT is something that isn't a big deal. If you can run Spigot, you can deal with Geyser.
As far as either a VM on Google Cloud or a Pi in your home network, it depends on how you wish to limit your exposure. If it's only "family in my LAN," I think having a headless machine will provide more long-term usefulness and "I don't have to constantly pay for this." My wife and I also play Valheim, Ark: Survival Evolved, and Foundry: Virtual Table-Top (FVTT). NOT all at the same time. I don't have to pay or maintain what I'm not dealing with right now. I know my machines and I know what I want to do with them. I *AM* sysadmin. There isn't anyone to deal with, and I don't want to deal with anyone else. If you are of that mindset, the Pi may be the better option. Choose accordingly.
@sebastian_hos You are free to create your own style and your own voice. I try to keep the character count to "what is necessary to communicate a complete statement of thought, no more, no less. Of course, that is usually more than what Twitter allows. But two things: 1) other sites have smaller limits, and I've no idea how it deals with messages received beyond that, and 2) tl;dr becomes an issue. Breaking it up into "complete thought statements" gives people a chance to digest ONE THING before moving on to respond to that OTHER THING you just said.
Of course, here I'm going to break that guideline to put JUST ONE MORE THING. :)
On "hashtagging", I have seen a suggestion to put those at the end. For people with readers, they hear "Hashtag helloerld! I like it when the hashtag internet is for..."
If you DO NOT think you'll have anyone following you with an audio reader, or it's too distracting for you, don't bother. It's a *guideline*, not a "rule you'd better follow or I'll hate you forever." But if you'd like to have family with "reader" considerations, it's definitely something to think about to save your family, or a potential friendship some annoyance.
Just remember, it's YOUR voice for you to use and develop over time. While I recognize some guidelines, I'm trying to internalize them to make it a habit and *NOT* have to think about or stress over them.
