@minogully@mstdn.ca "Getting into their heads." Ew. Nasty, filthy place. Most are quite disgusting.

@mathemaphysics @GeorgeStyles @minogully@mstdn.ca I'm just an armchair STEM enthusiast, and discussion of the gluon storm inside nucleons is about my limit. I simply don't have the math tools and experience to parse QFT.

I may not have the right idea in my ignorance, but I thought the storm of quark and gluon particle/ anti-particle pairs gave nucleons mass? And "quantizing gravity" means mathematically linking this "boiling stew" of nucleons to gravity at the macro level? I recognize I'm mostly flailing at it.

@GeorgeStyles @minogully We were trying to figure out if you could use finite elements to solve the problem so as to scale better than traditional methods like gaussian approximations.

Now I quietly obsess over reproducing kernels and write software for trains.

@minogully@mstdn.ca I love the reminder Saturn is "squishy."

@minogully@mstdn.ca Seeing this, now how do magnetic fields work on a flat earth? Other than, of course, it doesn't work on a flat earth at all?

God the pain when those jokers tried to explain magnetic fields on their flerf world! "You only need the North Pole, the South Pole is just pointing away!"

@freemo Oh yeah, I know. I wasn't thinking so much of the mechanics or the connectedness of "things," just the over-arching attitude of "lording it over mortals and lesser beings."

I run a server as a matter of self-defense from encountering too many godlings. At this point, because of my wife's disability, running my own server of "whatever game" is just life to keep her from having to deal with that nonsense.

@freemo I know. Same issue with running a server. The point of being an admin or "Mod" (staff privileged user) is to lord it over mortals and lesser beings. The idea of serving a user base and facilitating the common interest of the them? That notion can just piss right off!

@freemo Uhm... wow. I really appreciate punishing users for decisions they have no control over.

@Momibelle

! I *love* Cascadia! If you don't have a copy of youtu.be/NqiQn9MC5L8, you should at least keep the link in mind when you want to explain why you live in the area. I usually explain, "Like this, only I'm south of the border."

My current server group is suffering whiplash between Forge and Fabric. I *prefer* Fabric, and in fact I'm waiting on an update to Create for Fabric. While waiting, we are playing Auto TerraFirmaCraft (ATFC) on Forge 1.18.2. I'm also using MultiMC to manage keeping the clients in sync with updates and such.

Do you have a preference between the two mod loaders? Are you mostly driven by "what's this mod available on?"

Also, how do you keep your client base in sync? Multi-MC instances? Or are you using another tool? I've considered making it a mod pack, but I'm not clear how best to manage that. It looks like you are using your modpack to manage things for you.

Anyway, thanks for posting your work! It's great to see people doing The Cool Thing with . :)

@kkarhan I'm aware of the initial problem, and I've looked through this thread. Before "The Event" I've been looking to Modrinth first, CurseForge second. Modrinth lets me find the mods I want to seek more easily. CurseForge still has links to the older "legacy" version. I'm also aware of "issues" developers had. In all, Modrinth provides a better experience. But I have to get the mod *where* the mod is. So... do what you feel you must, however...

a) The specific problem was resolved as @Toothy and @cai_tan noted.

b) Dredging it back up like it's new news is something of a dick move.

c) There *ARE* current issues between the two platforms. Why not speak to those issues that are current instead? I'd appreciate more understanding specifics why I should favor one more than the other, if the mod should be on both.

If anyone has a link to *that* discussion, I'd be most obliged.

@freemo

I can't quickly find the specifics, but as I understand it, Julius Caesar was stabbed with the metal styluses used for writing by the senators.

That's right, if I recall correctly... he was killed with *pens*.

@lucifargundam

@minogully@mstdn.ca That's I'll look up now. I have to wonder if there is a mechanism governing the passage of time. I know relativity... can't even recall if it's SR or GR, establishes different rates of passage depending on point of relativistic view. I think that's in the realm of SR. But "my view point" is said to remain the same rate of passage. Gah, talking about instead of looking at the paper. Here's hoping it's not behind a pay wall! 😉

Hey you. Yeah, you. We're glad you're here. Just wanted to say that

@DataDrivenMD Wow! Thank you for this thread. It's kinda stuck in my head anyway, but you posting this is a great intro for me to forward two new folks asking questions. I figure it's like an email server, only for microblogging.

@freemo Oh! Cool. I was wondering about having metal groups. Wood I can see, although I would think wood would be too fragile for the battering of recoil. Again, it's been 35 years since Ft. Sill, OK, and I've never trained with a pistol.
