Elana Kagan's "weird" KKK statement

@ne1for23

I wondered how this would have come up. Context matters. Here's what I found.

Jackson brought up a Santa who didn't want to take photos with multi racial kids, Alito asked about a Santa not wanting to take a photo with people in KKK outfits. This matters as the current case is about turning down business for a reason and they're pressing what kind of other situation it aligns with.

From the article, it was Kagan who then talked about black children wearing KKK outfits.

Supreme Court Justice Elana Kagan then clarified that in this scenario, the same KKK outfit could be worn by a child regardless if that child is "Black or white or any other characteristic," and the same law would apply.

"You do see a lot of Black children in Ku Klux Klan outfits, right?" Alito then joked. "All the time."

There's got to be a simple math formula about projected future tax revenue vs cost of treatment, right?

Not going to pay in more? We can help. By killing you.

Free up space from the surplus population.

Looks like it's time to read A Christmas Carol again.

"If you're so desperate, madam, we can offer you MAID, medical in dying."

A 52-year-old retired corporal Christine Gauthier, who competed in the 2016 Paralympics, had asked for a wheelchair lift to be installed in her home.

I used to say that it seemed the socialized Healthcare system killed my grandmother, by putting her on a treatment wait list longer than her life expectancy when she has cancer after retirement... Felt at least from a distance like: treatment costs more than projected personal tax revenue? You don't get treatment. Just die. The system lowered overall costs by refusing treatment.

Saying this today is hardly shocking when the system in now just openly offers to kill patients when they ask for Healthcare.

Yeah, my post was speaking about how I parent my kids, not about how others parent theirs. And my kids do know it's one of many stories we enjoy, like Narnia and middle earth and so on, and that is not what Christmas is about.

I have met adults who still have trust issues because their parents didn't have a fun story, but instead built up the whole season around the story saying it was in fact.... fact.

Yikes.

We're really big on trust around here.

@Swifty@freeatlantis.com @johntrain Imaginitive play is important. And so is building parent child relationships on trust.

I always try to tell the truth to my kids.

I also sometimes tell my toddler I've got his nose. He knows it's play, and that doesn't detract from the fun. He takes my nose and throws it to the moon.

Santa is a great story, and we love good story. Story matters. We also talk about the real historic Saint Nicholas and his generosity and protection for kids... and how instead of coal for bad kids, it may be face slaps for heretics.

But the real magic of what we celebrate is a much deeper magic than an old man traveling the world giving kids goodies.

@ianvarley Welcome to another !

Looks like we've been working on Salesforce about the same length of time. I cut over from full stack development at a tech startup, then eight years at a large manufacturing company, now at a nonprofit and part time consulting on the side.

Off on a tangent

@freemo @antares @derickflorian @toxomat @ceoln @PaulaToThePeople @shelenn

I can take the tangent further... Is "dog whistle" a dog whistle? Is it further a dehumanizing phrase, othering those not on one's group to say they are inhuman, just animals that respond to signals?

More seriously, I do get concerned at the growing list of Forbidden Words deemed to be dog whistles. It's hard to keep up.

@freemo @toxomat @shelenn @ceoln the latest comment reads to me as.... Despite proof Yay all stated concerns are resolved, there's still problems and if you don't know, I'm not going to tell you.

Hardly treating others well with that kind of attitude. Feels less like a vetted list and more like.. the Paula Don't Like You list. 🤣

Treating others well is one thing I think is known for. Sad that the idea isn't shared more widely.

#Colorado #power #climate Heat waves and freezing temperatures won’t be the biggest risk for Colorado’s power grid in the future. It’ll be mild, cloudy days cpr.org/2022/12/01/colorado-po

Today I have a #salesforce code sample. From #Salesforce. It errors out. 🤦

Anyone out there successfully used to override embedded chat pre chat form? SF has a nice code sample to do this, but it has an uncaufht js error when the user clicks to start the chat.

👀 That's two CEOs out in one day.
