Food, gardening
@Kamiten
Looks good, even though I have no idea what sauce is it!
@kaniini
You can anyway follow anybody with rss feed without them knowing, doesn't seem that big of a deal. I mean, 'public' toot is called like that for a reason.
Maybe I'll change the wording though...
@trwnh
On qoto.org there is full text search, and frankly is quite useful.
Yesterday I was looking for a post of some days ago where we talked about a banana, would have had to scroll the local timeline for 10 minutes to find it if it wasn't for full text search. I'm not sure how much overhead does it give to the server though, and in that case should be likely limited
@kaniini
That would be awesome, finally no real need to actually write a reply and keep this big lie that internet interaction are similar to real life
@mamur Hi mamur, welcome here!
If you have specific doubts and perplexities about the fediverse don't be shy, we all need to the weak parts to be pointed out - or explained better =)
@joop how long is short you mean in terms of time?
My guess is that, from when it's full and left alone (with just turning sometimes, no adding) it would take it 3 weeks to compost the whole thing
All so correct and thanks for sharing. Only a point, "circles" and stuff are similar to the "group" function #pleroma people are developing right now.
@ferorus Hi,
the idea is not mine, you can find a good tutorial here: https://containergardening.wordpress.com/2011/09/07/bottle-tower-gardening-how-to-start-willem-van-cotthem/
My two modifications are:
* I don't cap the bottom bottle, I just put it in the soil (so I don't make a drainage hole neither;
* I tied each bottle separately because the weight was bending all the plastic (I have worst bottle than the guy I guess)
Ok, that's my new compost bin.
The 220 l barrel is resting on those small 4 wheels, so that turning it just takes a few seconds, and inside there are 2 half pvc tubes to help mixing.
It is my first compost tumbler, so we'll see how it goes. My main concern is that it reaches the critical mass needed to trigger the composting process, and that is doesn't take long (I need quick compost).
Meanwhile it looks good, and using it is really so easy that even my 9 yo brother can do it!
(Pink lighter on the side for scale reference, I'm sure @PonderingCreek will appreciate)
@jsparknz Well, first maybe obvious question is: static or dynamic?
I have a blog using pelican as static website generator. Love it.
I'm not a fan of CMSs, using a sql and php or whatever seems like a bit of an overkill for a simple, personal blog.
IMO
@FrenchKheldar Hi, I would actually have couple of questions about space missions and colonies, I'll try to formulate one later.
Meanwhile, a warm welcome here!
@atanguay
Welcome!
@TheSithSeth Welcome there! Do you have a specific interest in social sciences/psychology?
@DecaturNature If there is anything I can explain further just let me know, I'm more than happy to share
TL;DR: remove bottom and cap and tower them; compost done in any way possible
@DecaturNature Hi,
well, maybe couple of things aren't clear from the pictures.
Basically you cut the bottom of the bottle and remove the cap, you fill the bottle with soil and you tower them. They are individually tied so they don't put much compression on the one underneath.
The soil of each one is touching the one underneath (the bottom one is in the soil), so that water is allowed to get down.
On the side holes were cut to put the seeds and plants in.
If you are really interested in it, once I have the technique right next time I do it I can take pictures of the process, maybe even make a video (I feel I'm too lazy for that, but I can try) =)
Well the composting is a whole different story, I have couple of worm composting bins, a small garden with a composting hole, and a compost tumbler. Once the compost is done, there are no scraps anymore, only rich dark soil =D

I am a proud owner of a kobo touch since 7 years now.
Being the OS linux-based you can hack it to run android, turning the e-reader in a tablet, weak but perfect for wikipedia, mail, rss feed and more. No working mastodon app that I could find though =(
