Point is not that the land usage would get less under capitalism or communism, is that individuals tent to maximise their own gain and minimize their effort in gaining it. That, we can take as a solid point in natural sciences, but the implications are not obvious at all, otherwise we wouldn't have evolutionary strategies in altruism, cooperation and such.

Actually, I think you can apply the tragedy of the commons more to a completely free market, where everyone has a go to the resources and compete for them.
What is to be taken from it, is that we need to carefully regulate our usage of resources, as in the end we are just animals.

@socalledunitedstates

I understand you were just blowing some steam off, no worries.

People using the tragedy of the commons against communism may not have read it neither.

Which is weird, as it is not a long article. You can read the original here: science.sciencemag.org/content

Even if Hardin positions in general are very controversial to say the least, he thought about them long and hard, which is something that I personally respect.

He also triggered quite some researches in social and natural sciences, even if just to prove him wrong =D

@spineberg
I find nowadays most big distros are very friendly. I mean. You click on the firefox icon on the desktop and it starts, and installing stuff is easier with repos than going around looking for some suspicious .exe. Of course, a lot depends on the DE more than the distro itself.

With some stuff you are right, I think printers handling could be made easier, but overall is way more intuitive than the latest windows. IMO

@Algot FIY, I really enjoy your wordoftheday posts!

@ondiz That's quite fortunate, personally I'm freezing =D

Have a nice trip!

@ondiz ah, where are you headed to, may I ask? Weather is getting rather cold even in the south

@cassolotl@dev.glitch.social So true. The environmental impact is way more complex than the simple waste, and I often feel a lack of attention toward the rest of the product cycle.

That is likely what makes many people feel that a new, more fuel efficient car is good for the environment, without chipping in the production energy, the disposal of the previous car and so on.

Dangerous.

Cool, what's the pollutant?

Beside this map being nice, the website you linked (ecoclimax) looks very interesting, with pretty eye-candy graphs, thanks

@Photocrimes

Looks good, where is it? Got pictures if the inside?

Nae King! Nae quin! Nae Laird! Nae master! We willna' be fooled agin!

@jorge
I use feeder for android and quiterss on debian. No need for external server and allow me to categorize feeds as I want them.
Also, as they both use OPML to back up, I can easily sync them

Gardening, Vermicompost

@JovialKarma Well, worms will breath and like to have a mean for fresh, oxygen rich air to easily get in.
If you have enough space on top or holes on the side that may be enough.

Gardening, Vermicompost

@JovialKarma looks good! Have you done some holes for gas exchange on the lid too?

Setting up a server we plan to use to host , possibly applications like , , , , independent websites and other tools.
Aim is to help local projects, structures and other like-minded people and projects to get the data back in their hands.

We are doing the whole thing as a local node atm, and part of the funds for the server were donated by faircoop. Server itself is physically hosted in Naples, at the Ex-Asilo Filangieri

Exciting times.

@mkwadee
Been using my phone in greyscale since this toot of yours. I have to say, not sure I could find a decreased usage, but it is definitely less stimulating and makes me more focused on what I want to do. Thanks!

@kensanata I use autistici.org since like 6 years for emails, jabber, I had a blog there at noblogs.org and I used their VPN for a while (they don't offer VPN anymore though). I've met some of the collective personally, since we sometimes hang out in same meetings. As far as I can remember, only once the servers were successfully DDoSed, so services went down for a few hours, and once there was a security breach which they promptly patched... in general, you can rest assured that if they have a problem they will be transparent about it.

Their servers are based in Europe, you can check their structure in here: autistici.org/orangebook/html-

I've also used riseup for file sharing, email and pad, but they are US based

@kensanata I really don't like how tutanota and protonmail are not compatible with standard clients. Standard is a golden rule for security and privacy.

You can also consider people like riseup.net or autistici.org, they are not for profit, privacy focused collectives getting by by donations only. Cool people, IMO
