@Fslowly tooted this text on Humblr on Oct 19
I've noticed that it's customary to thank followers. But I haven't done it before now
I didn't understand that every kind of feedback in this Humblr site is like a link in the chains I'm struggling with -- slowly
I don't think much about the size of my chain -- or the number of my followers. But I know each of the links in chains are important in ways I need to figure out. This I do care about.
So, thank you -- each of you -- for what you've done (even when I don't "get it" yet)
_______
In a context of grief, I've been thinking a lot about chains which hold me in the past. I can't distinguish between love and chains. I must let go. I want to hold on. I can't figure it out.
I construed it as a good omen when I discovered an image of chains here. This rope repair in this chain makes it the most important image I've found online in November.
The answer to questions I can't put into words is captured by this photographer. I just have to wait until understanding comes to me.

@chikara @Fslowly Very nice post, Chikara.
I am glad to know you liked the patched chain image - which I discovered in the Net, found interesting and posted in a message here yesterday..
That it is the most important image you have seen this month is meaningful to me as well - it means what I am doing is meaningful and important.
I had different reactions upon first seeing the image; the first one, that it was a 'hack', a quick fix, obviously weaker than and compromising the strength of the rest of the chain.
But - later I looked at it and discovered the other side of the picture.
It is indeed an ingenious fix, a simple solution to connecting two shorter lengths into a longer one when needed.
While still being easily reversible when desired, stored and ready for the next time it's needed.
An elegant and simple solution. The best kind there is.
Have a good night, and thank you. 🌆
@togs Looks good, Duncan! 😜
Bon appetit!
@johnlitt @Gauravpatel Welcome, you have found a ncie home to be. A really cool community if you are interested in the site's theme of Sci Tech Eng and Math.
Have fun, ask questions, repeat. ❓
@freemo @Karthikdeva @arteteco @Surasanji In interest of being clear, I have blocked non-western script posts, which are totally obscure to me, via settings in mastodon web client. So I haven't seen any posts that Mastodon identifies as non-english or european languages.
@chikara @Fslowly Beautiful drawing and a nice poetic post. Practice is important indeed.
Middle Age English commoners were forced to do some hours of archery practice on Sunday, after the expected Church services.
They were the reserve, the militias the king would call in when needed.
English Long Bow men were legendary, their bow power drove arrows thru armour and into the opposing Cavalry, decimating them.
Agincourt was a major battle decided purely by this; the french lost their Noble chevaliers and were sadly defeated by disciplined and trained commoners.
@freemo @Karthikdeva @arteteco @Surasanji If we get flamed from other instances it will be hell, and denigrate this instance's reputation.
Politics in India and the region can be quite passionate and inflamed from what I have seen. It doesn't belong here, that kind of discussion or conflict, so it's important to have monitoring if posts in these languages stay accepted.
@Rovine @esperera_98 Oh, no, that is an all day event. Hang in there, our host invited the whole internet to the party. 😺
@Karthikdeva @freemo @arteteco @Surasanji A light touch at the tiller is essential for good seamanship sometimes.
Pointing the way without being harsh, ideal.
The site has this unique focus and a talented membership acting in the STEM field, education, etc. we might lose people if it turns spammy and messy; there are many instances to chose.
I hope we can find the right approach, and it's nice that things here are discussed so openly. Unusual in my past experience.
@Karthikdeva @arteteco @Surasanji @freemo
That's wonderful Karthik! Site really needs help with those.
I am planning to offer my help on the next mod nominations round, when i will have enough time and experience.
@Karthikdeva @freemo @arteteco @Surasanji If there's any problematic posting in one of those unfathomable language/scripts, we end up facing anger from remote instance admins, or possibly flam wars if post is political in nature.
Neither an interesting perpective or productive use of admin, mod team's time and attention.
I would suggest reinforcing the site's main subject / theme as well, we don't want to be another masto.social with thousands of general posting users imo.
@Karthikdeva @freemo @arteteco @Surasanji We will need to have people willing to offer the help and monitor them, or ban non-english posts outright.
Restricting to western script, european languages only is easier, but could be seen as unfairly restrictive.
