And Here is another Proof that Instances DO Matter.

Same post as above, lightly touched with goodness. At a GlitchSocial instance, not a mastodon one which is still stuck in 500 character toot limit and other quirks of the project leaders preference.

Screenshot, judge for yourself. Does it matter? does it look better, worse?

It is an Option, and currently only people in leading edge Fedi can see this natively. A major flag and issue for me, as you might notice? love and this helps. , , better and is on these other projects -- GS and Pleroma at the moment, that I know off.

There might be others; Friendica is intriguingly RICH in features, text formatting there is a non-issue. As is Editing a post. Not for ex-twitter people, apparently.

@freemo I did not vet the list instances, but liked the idea of having ANOTHER place for people to find interesting ones.

This is in addition to Eugen's nice and well known joinmastodon.org/

...and another less functional, similar site : instances.social/

Freely reporting here, sir, the visitors are welcome to choose or reject whichever they like.

* Is it Important, which Instance you are in ? *

Once again I had an enjoyable conversation, earlier today. Achso was there, and we continued a conversation from a day before. We discussed different things, and specially how choosing an instance to fit your needs and preferences is important.

My thoughts on the matter, and a detailed list of some instances I frequent.

On today's web magazine, live at : write.tedomum.net/rgx/is-it-im

[ a repost of my original Jan 4, 2020 Blog post announcement -- relevant on this day where I am mentioning other instances worth of consideration and instance listing sites.

More is better. Less is Twitter, FB. Don't need or want that

@realcaseyrollins

is the Future. Right now, here, and looks and feels like the vanilla ones.

But -- it adds pizzazz and a more open project, development than main stream .

A LOT of good ideas, already implemented. You could also consider koyu.space/ , another GS instance and quite nice.

For an average mastodon user, transition is painless. For the ones that care to discover the Extras, it's SO much nicer.

Waiting for Eugen to bless rich text, ? Already in use, at GS and everywhere.

@emuz

@emuz I was really curious about the name. It seemed similar to some funny English words.

@realcaseyrollins , think about another RealCaseyRollins @ KamFukWi.me ? LOL. 😜

Sorry for the little joke, it's good to know the origin of the name, and that is not a collapsed funny one like this above.

I like your choice of GlitchSocial, it's a nice platform, I enjoy it in a couple other instances where I have accounts.

I would suggest you could promote the awesome support of Rich Text options in GS -- and right off the box, fully supported.

For someone in , that is Great -- and I do use it to prepare my Blog Release posts with some of the possible touches MD enables. Header size, bold and italic; quote blocks, code tag with pretty contrasting text.

Succes with your instance, Tom! Thanks for offering an awesome service that takes effort, dedication and expense; many people don't even realize how much.

@freemo

> the only reason they are in the fediverse at all was to hijack the fediverse apps int he app store to circumvent censorship.

That. 100% agreed. I have read a really good article about the Fedi and Eugen's reaction to their hijacking the open source and running with it.

To general dismay. A good blog post could come out of it, as I loved the theme and discussion.

Need to reactivate my Fedi Reporting blog -- there's so much to be written and explained.

@emuz Nice work. Success to you and the instance. Curiosity -- what's the story about the "kafuka" name?

I can dig that - and maybe they will see the benefit of connections and move out ot the gab ship before it leaves port.

This could potentially benefit some of us who get aggravation by not blocking gab. Pretty pathetic, but a fact I deal with, my main qoto.org account is not seen at some places I would care about. Sadly in some cases, while many others are irrelevant FediBlock powertrip cases.

#RetroComputing Heaven 😍

Interesting bit to watch. Gab head techies considering saying screw-it to Fediverse content.

That could improve the climate in the rest of the Fediverse, avoid nastiness by association like some instances suffer (not by supporting Gab, but simply by defending open network connection unless there's a reason for limiting or denying it)

A nice feature set.

And a modern GlitchSocial instance has added features compared to the vanillla Mastodon ones.

Rich Text -- Markdown and BBcode, is built right in. I love that. Heads up for what looks like an interesting place for an account.

Write.freely is excellent as a blogging platform. I use and enjoy it.

Plume is good too, and has on blog comments built in, if that is a feature you care for (WF excludes it and other social features by design).

I have read some interesting articles from the time Gab switched over to mastodon, and the reactions to that, and it was interesting reading -- would like to read your post when it is published.

Plume also supports in-site image hosting, which makes it easier to use for newer users. I find write.freely's default layout presents a clean and nice to read on page layout in both mobile and pc platforms.

A more recent Issue posted at the project's Git, included a proposal for Quote Block -- which is part of what others already have, and do a lot for Forum discussions, for example.

From this topic, ThibG linked to the older discussion (lively topic, link in the above toot). Screenshot of this older topic included here.

Just found a lively discussion. Although dated from April 2019, this is indeed being discussed at the top levels of Mastodon project.

A long topic, including the lead developer's resistance to the request for support (WITH Code included) of Rich Text options ( and others, as already supported in GlitchSocial, Pleroma and other platforms).

Eugen is not for it (or we would already have it). But there IS a yearning for more than the Sh1tty plain text. From people who write toots longer than the one liners favoured by old time ex-Twitter heads.

Discussion at : github.com/tootsuite/mastodon/

Saving this as a place marker, for later reading deeper into it.

needs Better text formatting options. Get on with the times, will we?

@Sphinx That's part of the beatuy of Spring, those long days.

And teh lush greenery. Balmy weather. Loveliest time of the year, my favourite Season, Spring.

@freemo Yes, correct.

I meant Live water as "living, moving", not stagnant like normal plates.
