Well said, but just a reminder that many places do not disclose their blocking lists or policies.

And users will need an education and some experience to get to a point where this will matter to them, I think.

There's so many new ideas, concepts to learn, the Fediverse is vast, a lot more than Mastodon - and that I found fascinating. Still do.

Will collate a lot of the posts we made here in a #FediReporter article sometime in the near future -- this is an important issue, it's not just Gab and affiliates, but the internecine war and collateral damage done to decent people, who put an effort and money to be here, provide services, help others.

* Crossposting, and Surprises Happened... *

Very recently I started thinking hard about moving - from a Mastodon instance to an alternative platform with more features. I have enjoyed this process, and wrote about it yesterday :

After staying up late one night, I had found a good instance, created and configured my account. Then on to bed, it was late.

Next day, as part of making it a productive account, I went on to configure a **Crossposter** for it.

I prefer to leave the decision of that in the user's hands, and to provide them with User Guides and support, explaining how to do it. That has been my course of action here at Qoto, even before I joined the staff.

Personally, I use a full Block for them and their satellite instances. We all have limited free time and energy to spend here, and I rather not getting into confrontations or name calling with users from known radicalized places.

Irks me though -- when we see a respectful instance (ours here) get treated as Guilty by Association -- due to the admin's decision, still standing, to keep federation links normally.

Gab is irrelevant for the Fediverse -- their own software developer's post, included above in this thread, admitted to the Insularity they have -- which is Off the scale.

Public data and careful analysis create these reports, for all instances. Gab's numbers are phenomenal -- they are in a corner, and not talking to anyone.

Many of us are not interested, and if things stay like that, the rage love fedi block is in my view incorrect, negative and doing damage to Non-facist instances all over the place. Despicable.

Those supposedly anti-fascists are actually the ones acting the way they profess to despise. I have confronted one of their members, when I came across a thread advocating de-federation of this instance.

That person acted surprised, to have a response.

Adding a screenshot of their OP -- pretty low effort job, if you are going to War, at least prepare for it.

This person went on to creating a big incident in early March this year (three months after the thread above posted) which nearly destroyed the instance they were involved in at the time. This is documented and known by many people, it was big indeed.

I would think sometimes there's power tripping, involved. One of the people who is quite active in that bandwagon runs a very small instance, but gets attention, etc. His blocked list is likely 10 times the size (number of lines versus number of users compared). And I joked about that in private.

Have lived in different networks over time, and there's always some strange, many times negative and destructive behaviour draining down energy that could be used to improve things.

Currently they seem to be enjoying that route.

This place is pretty unique -- I have been in internet communities of different kinds for 30 years now. Fr many years it was Forums, and I was active and became Mod, and sometimes Staff, assistant admin in some of them.

No place in my experience had an upper level Admin class that would take a Mod's suggestions and give it thorough evaluation, then decided by consensus or voted -- with the Mods getting equal voting power.

One person, one vote, this is thanks to our fearless leader's vision, and unique indeed. We disagree sometimes, in fact I do get ticked off and he knows what causes that. But there's mutual respect, and no offense is taken, we are professionals.

Tribute to Jeff's vision and openness. Very, very rare.

I was in different places over time, and of course left; there comes a time when it's the best for all involved, or I wouldn't be here now. Some of the places I worked at are still alive and important in their niches.

I do know I am a sailor, a traveller, and a day will come when I set sail, saddle my bike and take to the road -- just like I love doing in real life.

Until then, it's a pleasure working here; people couldn't pay the cost of the work volunteered by dedicated staff all over the Fediverse. Got to hope the experiment goes well, as the corporate internet is pretty disgusting sometimes.

And Facebook is Zuck's -- he's got tight control and outrageous amount of Voting shares, while the fools at large got non-voting ones.

So, FB goes wherever he wants. It's stupid, but Wall Street winked and let him have it, the profits on the IPO were tremendous.
