Very interestingly -- I just discovered that Mastodon will display the Hidden URL links properly, AS LONG AS the post was create elsewhere (Pleroma, Glitch) where enhanced text is widely available and enjoyed.

I think some people already Know about the very useful OCR Scanning bot that we have here in Fediverse.

IO have used it, many times, and it's so handy -- all you need is :

* to have an image with text you wanted scanned.
* to send a message -- BEST of ALL , a Direct Message so you keep it private.
* to the neat @OCRbot

Wait a minute or so, and your Notifications will Show a Reply from it. With the scanned text.

Output is quite good, usually only needs to remove extraneous Line Breaks -- so text flows naturally as intended.

Watch this topic for the response coming directly to it.

REMINDER -- much more Civil to use it via DM, unlike someone at another instance (not naming) who abused this, daily, on the Local Feed line.

Reason to create a Filter in my account there, actually. Get rid of the noise.

That was humble and honest, and I would appreciate it if receiving it. Hope Eugen doesn't take offence, as I do criticize some directions as well. For the better, for the growth of Fediverse, which Mastodon is a large part of, but not the whole enchilada.

Putting this out quick and dirty, from the Toot Editor and without nice formatting but it's important and maybe someone can help or take interest on it?

- Proposal :

a. To add a new setting that allows people to create a post which will Collapse the text body (similar to what a CW does)

b. While keeping the post attached Image(s) VISIBLE.

- Rationale :

c. This is intended for presentation, visual purposes. For those of us who produce Long Form content, and yet would like to have a more compact displayed Toot in the Feed lines.

d. The poster considering this would select the C.W. style warning text line as an Article Title (similar to newspaper or magazine headlines)

e. And select with care a good, related, catchy image to pass some of the content idea and attract a reader into the folded write up.

- Benefits :

f. A more compact Toot, taking less visual space, vertically, while still beign able to communicate with users via Title and an exposed image..

g. How is this different from the current CW feature? The Image is NEVER shown in a CW post, so all that can catch and bring in a reader is the TITLE itself.

- Experience :

h. I have done this in the past, liked the visual it produced, but not the lack of readers, as shown by the low interaction.

i. due to that, while I had show and recommended this practice (Long Post being always wrapped in CW), I gave it up soon, based on experienced results (item h).

Thank you, I can see positive signs for the content I am focusing there. I considered other places where I have a longer established presence and like the community - Hackers.Town in fact, but if that was my base, my posts there would not be seen here, as they are not seen there if posted here.

As you know, that is the reason. Muensterland is a wonderful platform, a personal instance for me at the moment, and with Nickla's blessings, I will be adding content and inviting deserving people to join me there.

While keeping and being active people.

I try not to overwhelm this account with my beloved Cat posts and photos, so having M.S as a second base means I can do twice the cat posting per day, my runs are about 6 or so, then I pause.

I have Crossposters setup to feed into Qoto or MS equally easily, one letter change on a hashtag is all I need to direct a post to either one.

AND -- I find the posts I craft there are way more meaningful in Visual content, I must use that as it's available now. I know you are planning to bring it here, and thank you for the care and effort needed.

But even so, the reasons for a separate presence remain, just as strong.

my follower count there is growing organically - from people who noticed the posts and liked the content. I did not promote it actively, and the intent of this post here is just so interested people know what is happening, and there is more of my stuff out there.

In consideration to the local friends here at Qoto, I have already been doing the Real Release posts at MS, but copying a smaller, stripped down version and posting here, possibly with Local-Only, non-federating settings on.

Very needed back in November when we had a whack of Indian subcontinent non-western script posts -- all looked like minnows and earthworms to me.

Thankfully that wave has passed away, it had no relation to most of the membership at all.
