@hansw @Sphinx The British have some of the prettiest spoken English all around. (Some of their regional variations are not that friendly, and outright hard to understand in some cases).

I love their ways, not only the spoken word, but the creative and unexpected turns of phrase -- so refreshing compared to the less creative US speech and writing.

But you could still consider a nice Glitch-Social instance for an account -- mine at Muensterland.social has a 5,000 character maximum, which is plenty. I am quite happy there, it's a small instance and you are welcome to come and sign up.

Boss sees the clear advantage, and has a test instance for getting used to it and considering a migration.

Our hosting costs are high and getting worse -- this might help a lot.

More responsive and less hardware requirements == lower hosting costs indeed.

He needs to see if the database can be imported in Pleroma, and then offer a temp test instance for the userbase to try. With the MastodonFE front end it should be an easy transition to anyone.

Plus he wants all his extras, the ones added to this instance already; that complicates things somewhat.

But there's movement in that direction, the ship is turning. Happy to report that! 🚢

@zleap I think you are going to like a Blog post I am just collecting my previous posts for.

I have battled against that 500 chars limit for months now, victories are far apart, not frequent. Best is to consider it carefully when selecting an instance.

Otherwise, Ingo's place is cool, and he's a great admin and veteran Fidonet operator too.
