@globcoco There are a lot of nice resources in the French cooperatives like TeDomum.net and FramaPiaf.org.

Worth checking!

Plus, you could check Le Chatons, a colectif of coop organizations.

Niklas is correct, in my view, in pointing that Eugen will stand his ground and refuse changes on the limit. He's stuborn and hard headed sometimes, and many people have got pissed off by how much control he has over the whole project.

I think the best course of action is to move to one of the alternatives already available and offering not only larger Toot size limits, but better user controls, and faster performance in the case of Pleroma.

Eugen has stated outright that he doesn't even want to see the Toot limit advertised as a feature to attract new users -- as he knows he will lose people if they knew there are alternatives to this cramped 500 he enforces.

Brutal, is what it is. I read two great Medium posts by a lady who worked in the Mastodon project a couple of years ago -- she did what I do, prepare documentation, intermediate between users and management, tech and developer teams. And never got a credit mentioned in the project documentation, or any money. She left and was feeling better after it.

Her two posts are recommended reading if you have interest on knowing the inner workings of the mastodon project - -and the reason for Forks and splits, etc.

@globcoco -- you might want to add these to a reading list. Recommended!

I grabbed images from the viewer, using the Developer's panel in Firefox. Really annoying how they force you to be a user there to download a publicly viewable document. Sucks.

Thanks, Paul I can open the page. The txt viewer there is too small for any practical use, so uploading a file to some host would be ideal -- then posting a link here.

Thank you!

* Community Building and Leadership - Ideas *

We are always looking for Talent.

A transcription of a Long Form Toot - qoto.org/@design_RG/1043426769 earlier this morning, fully composed on the fly, in my toot Editor at a Mastodon instance.

Lightly edited for Blog publishing, adding links and references only, content was ready. The views in the post are my own, I believe they reflect values which make instances vibrant and pleasant places to be in.

Staff at Qoto.org are always scouting for new Talent, and open to suggestions, comments.

Adding new Staff members is good for all communities -- it's a labour of love, we do it for the fun, the pleasure of seeing things growing up, a nice social climate growing.

I would like to invite any Active user at Qoto (*or in the Fediverse at large, if you decided to join us*) to consider if they would like to help.

That is the Topic of today's Blog -- write.tedomum.net/rgx/communit

OP : muensterland.social/@rgx/10434

@globcoco LOl, he's Always doing this kind of thing.

Throw the bait in the water and wait for them fishies.

Many times people bite and he reels them in. Hours of banter follows.

Sometimes Hell Threads develop too. Watch if you get involved, as the Mute Conversation button doesn't seem to stop notifications well -- I am bombarded for HOURS afterwards, so sometimes I won't peep into these topics at all.

Self preservation, as I already have lots of Notis to pay attention to.

@globcoco I sincerely thank you, from the heart -- as coming from a fellow writer, this means a lot to me.

Honestly. I never took training in writing, other than regular high school language classes and voracious reading.

At a time when the amount of reading material I could access would be a small fraction of what I personally hold here, at a home library, now.

Your comments inspire me, and that is great. I wrote a long reply on the Pinafore topic you posted on this morning -- soon to be a blog post, as it's got all the content for one.

Great to have you here, Coralie.

@jegpeek Just looked at your profile and I am impressed. 👍 🙂

Wonderful to have you here, if you need anything just ask, I am part of the staff.

@freemo is our admin and a great guy too.

@zleap @globcoco OMG!!!

I set my location to Bahrain once there, so the Trending would not make any sense or even bother me, lol.

It can be an awful place. Geez.

But there's good stuff, even beyond the cat photos and videos department.

@globcoco

Yes, it is on my personal projects list -- as I looked for one and could not find it at all.

I found Niklas's instance I am now a member at, mentioned in his Blog.

Have a ton of Tabs still open from that search -- and found one huge list (ALL the mastodon servers known at this time) which has included the Glitch-Social ones.

I can get these from there, but it will take hours, as the page is very slow loading. But worth it as there's a clear need.

And it should be a popular resource too. 🙂

Niklas posted a list of various GS instances he currently administers; I had posted mentions to muensterland.social, koyu.space and kafuka.me, all GS and where I am a member too.

More to come, I want that list too.

Database fields are usually fixed size -- there's a maximum length for the strings of text stored in each.

That name would be pushing it, along with being very challenging to pronounce.

@hansw @Sphinx

@globcoco You are very welcome.

The crossposters are wonderful tools, and used with moderation they just enrich both networks.

There are so many nice Cat accounts on Twitter. I follow them and crosspost, always with a personal comment. Usually get a TY back, and many follow me too, which I reciprocate.

My Blog page about Crossposting is so good, the manual I never had when I started here -- and is now all pretty and organized for whoever has the curiosity.

You win, that's the worst. I would have trouble traveling there.

All of those are Gaelic, Celtic in origin, which explains their bizarre sounds and spellings.

Thank you guys -- this discussion is dear to me. I wrote a long form reply, and posted at the top level, just so it CAN be seen and maybe raise discussion, much needed on this topic.

@jegpeek A Hello World is a common choice, Josh.

Welcome to Qoto. 🙂

@techmagus Thanks for the Heads Up!

Can you tell everyone a bit of why Mint is a good distribution to consider, compared to Ubuntu and the others?

Thank you!

@zleap

Very good Paul, thank you.

We can have an impact if we organize and put in a focused effort. I try to do that, for things that are important to me. Avoiding distractions helps too, as our time is always limited.

Let's hope you get people's curiosity up and some visitors come knocking. Cheers!
