@splash730 Hello, and welcome to the Fediverse!
Will pass you some links I use for new users at our instance -- the first Guide is the one I used when I joined here, very good.
-----
Enjoy the network and all it has to offer. If you are new to using Mastodon, there's a good guide here: https://lifehacker.com/a-beginner-s-guide-to-mastodon-1828503235
We also have another new users guide, posted here : https://write.tedomum.net/rgx/suggestions-and-guidelines-for-new-users-written-by-mastodon-art-administrator
Casey Rollins made a video to explain the Fediverse, here :
"I made this video awhile back to help explain how the #Fediverse works."
Freemo has made polls here quite frequently. Example :
I really like the Firefox Lite version, use it exclusively on my cell phone.
You can take a look at F-Droid and see what Browsers they carry - I remember usign and enjoying Dolphin too, on my tablets, years ago.
It's still around and allows a Desktop page view quite easily, handy for a larger size display.
A couple of choices on F-Droid :
🇬🇧 Good morning to all our Spanish speaking friends in the Fediverse.
I wanted to share a mention of a nice small instance, which runs the excellent and more full featured version of Mastodon called "Glitch-Social" -- and which I personally recommend to anyone interested in a better environment.
Niklas is the Admin of some mastodon instances running Glitch-Social, and on a post here yesterday he mentioned one, which is a Spanish speaking focused one.
https://mstdn.es/about is the location. You are welcome to visit and register, make yourself a new home there, perhaps you like it? I have created a personal Publishing account for my Blog at another of Niklas's instances and am very happy.
A small server is open to grow, and your contribution helps that happen.
Would like to know more about Glitch-Social? See the introduction page here : https://glitch-soc.github.io/docs/

@zleap WolframU has programming, graphics courses and a lot more. Tons.
@zleap Thanks for the post, Paul!
Maybe add it in Discourse as well?
I did find many open courses at Wolfram University, part of Wolfram Research .
Want to start a new online programming course? There are lots of free ones out there - you just have to know where to look.
So in this article @dhawalhshah
shares 680+ free online programming & computer science courses you can start in June.

@globcoco
Thank you, Coralie.
They are quite popular, I get a ton of notifications each time I do a post run. And now at 490 photos in my collection.
BTW -- discovered a neat link I can get, right from my profile's featured Hash tags.
It points to all the posts I have made, in that particular hash, super handy.
https://qoto.org/@design_RG/tagged/cats
And my newer invention, my personal Journal for remarkable posts, for reference :
https://qoto.org/@design_RG/tagged/rgxJournal
This one I use from all over the Fedi, addign to it whenever I write something I want easily retrievable.
A friend here had one I loved -- his username was a play on Karl Marx, so he used #bookMarx , I loved it.
@globcoco The topic is here :
https://discourse.qoto.org/t/listing-of-known-pinafore-instances-you-can-connect-to/339
And thanks for letting me know -- I think the whole instance is gone now. Pity, one less.
Maybe we could ask our own admin to consider implementing a local Pinafore instance?
@freemo used to run an Halcyon instance here -- could we have a Pinafore one ? I volunteer to do as much for it as I possibly can.
The Filters I mentioned are in the Preferences of Mastodon itself -- and I have a good post with detailed instructions, handy for anyone who doesn't like Cat photos.
Makes me feel better, as I am not forcing anyone to see mine -- and provide an easy way out for anyone not interested. it's here :
@compass_straight_edge Yes, new features -- we added a bunch in January.
Not sure if you saw my manual for each of them?
https://discourse.qoto.org/t/qoto-org-new-january-2020-features-added-detailed-descriptions/192/
@compass_straight_edge I am glad you like it -- join us.
We will consider requests to add a new section, as long as there is an interest and someone who will take the lead as Content Provider for that area.
If you are passionate about some special area, software or project, it can be done.
Mine is the new Pinafore Client subforum,
https://discourse.qoto.org/c/PROJ/PINA/35
and Paul has got a new Astronomy one started too.
@Lyudmila @mikelalasmuto@mastodon.social Hola, buenos días, empezando la ronda.
It does take a toll on us sometimes. But we are doing the Good Work, so take a minute and recharge. Your contribution is appreciated, Paul.
There's a lot of interests, commercial, government, political, etc behind many things. Speaking up and bringing your views has an impact.
@baschi29 Glad you asked -- I love Write.freely, and Coralie is also a user, so lots of opinions and experience here.
A full listing of WF nodes is here : https://fediverse.network/writefreely?count=users
This is sorted by Users, larger first. The offered conditions do vary -- so it pays to read a bi and shop around.
I do use a couple.
My tech blog is at TeDomum.net, a French instance, I like it. But they only allow one Blog. Maybe that's ok for most people, and less complicated.
If more than one Blog (say, separated by themes -- photo, poetry, travel, etc) is considered, then visiting the instance and seeing their terms is the way to find the best.
I do recommend Wordsmith.social -- they allow up to 10 blogs, per user, which is very generous.
Stay away from the largest instance on that list, write.as -- as they need to cover their company costs, and the only offered free service is very limited, a single one. And then all are added costs, monthly.
Good luck, and ask any questions if you like.
There's also Plume, which is similar to WF, but has some differences. I have an account but prefer WF, for aesthetic reasons. For a new user though, Plume offers in-instance image hosting, something that makes it easier for them if they want to use images in their pages.
Plume instances listed : https://fediverse.network/plume?count=users
#rgxJournal @globcoco anything to add ?
