@feld

Wow, what a lovely reference -- just read, thank you for it. Loved!

>> Parkinson provides the example of a fictional committee whose job was to approve the plans for a nuclear power plant spending the majority of its time on discussions about relatively minor but easy-to-grasp issues, such as what materials to use for the staff bike shed, while neglecting the proposed design of the plant itself, which is far more important and a far more difficult and complex task.

@phlegmaticvolk

@zleap That is not a problem for Public posts. I really would recommend you read a bit about using a crossposter -- as it's lot less work for you, and it preserves the original with a link to the source there as well.

Simple to use, a keyword in a hash tag is what is needed to trigger a crosspost. See all my cat pictures and other imported posts. Great tools to spread information.

@Ruzindla Hello, and welcome to Qoto.

Enjoy the network and all it has to offer. If you are new to using Mastodon, there's a good guide here: lifehacker.com/a-beginner-s-gu

We also have another new users guide, posted here : write.tedomum.net/rgx/suggesti

Casey Rollins made a video to explain the Fediverse, here :

Using graphic from article to illustrate, hopefully that falls under fair use.

@feld

Ahhh - thank you for the clarification. I have it opened in a tab, and a racer style bicycle is on the background. I assumed your user name was a favourite bicycle brand; and considered if I should use my own fave as well, lol.

Thanks Feld!

** Pleroma - Finding the Good Instances, part 1 **

I was pleasantly surprised by the interest generated by my "Discover Pleroma. An alternative to Mastodon" -- write.tedomum.net/rgx/discover page. Various people contacted me, interested in trying out Pleroma, and asking for some recommended instances.

* Is it important, which instance you are in ? *

Yes, I believe so. And wrote a blog page about that *which is currently my most popular one* -- "Is it Important, which Instance you are in?" write.tedomum.net/rgx/is-it-im)

This will be Part 1, with detailed suggestions on finding and evaluating Instances, via Fediverse.network or Federation.info sites. I will walk thru the exact criteria I used on a personal search about 10 days ago, and the nice results found.

Part 2 will be separate to keep page size reasonable -- and will directly and clearly list Recommended Instances. Writing and posting it next!

As usual, I love Writing, and this is Long Form prose. Lavishly illustrated, References and links included. A Web Magazine page I am proud of.

That is the *** Topic of today's Blog *** -- write.tedomum.net/rgx/pleroma-

@zleap

I would see those as part of the Science umbrella, and have no problems with active users joining and adding quality content. They are welcome, imo.

@freemo

@phlegmaticvolk @feld

Thank you, PV -- I have a tab open on BikeShed.Party as well. 😋

And am thinking of joining the instance too as I am a bicycle lover and touring cyclists. It could be a good home for a thematic blog announcement place. 👍

Part 1 of this is ready and released : muensterland.social/@rgx/10437

@globcoco Looking at the word count I am thinking I should stop at this point, wrap it up -- and follow on to the next post for the actual Instances listings with details.

The FAB family story, a listing of all of them, that will fill a nice page by itself.

Likely I will do that, 1100 words is already a long post.

Got to go back into editing and off the timelines! 😜

@globcoco Number 1 when I see b.s. at local timeline.

Number 2 when it gets too slow here, a good reason to have other instances and friends elsewhere too.

@alex

Wonderful Alex! Keep going, your work will make things here accessible to many that would not bother with the current alternatives.

** Pleroma -- Instances Suggestions & Recommendations ? **

I did not forget, and am working on it.

Screenshot from my Dark Theme Write.Freely editor, 1122 Words already in it. More to come.

at the office.

@sander

You were probably asking igel, as sys admin, but I have been posting my new observer impressions with my alt account there -- @yann@jaegger.website in this thread too.

Much impressed. Lots of great ideas on simplifying complex things Fedi has, make them much easier for new people.

@sander

Opinions, noses, everybody has one. It looks "Beta", I will concede, but has potential.

@a1batross

Kudos for leaving it unlocked and allowing people to experiment BloatFE. Well done.
