>> Would like to know why I should give a third party details about accounts

All data is stored locally, in the client's browser; and all communications are directly from client to instance API.

So you are not offering Nolan any info much. He doesn't want it either.

His huge instance for Pinafore costs only $15 USD per month to host, as there's little data other than the client loading from there, and then going on it's happy way to it's selected instances API calls.

for Tech reporting, Love.

@hansw

Have you seen or used Pinafore? It's a delightful client. Fast, small, great features.

I am a big supporter.

@hansw QNX is a Canadian company and did excellent work -- they specialized in time critical processing, and optimized for efficiency and speed.

Sadly they never made it big. I think Research in Motion, another Canadian icon and pioneer (RIM, now known by their most famous product, Blackberry Inc.), RIM did use it for their Playbook tablet OS.

A high quality product also not commercially successful.

I love fast and compact software. Used Os/2 and was a big supporter.

Then NT4 Workstation, which I still sadly miss.

So many good things disappeared over the years. Digital Equipment Corp. Compaq. and many others.

@hansw

That is interesting, and I even tried it for a minute here in Pinafore. Now the option to show Reader mode has disappeared from the location box.

A clean look, although at a cost of huge wasted space.

Have you see The Desk client? it's a Japanese one and quite interesting.

* Todon.nl - Admin Reacts to Polite Inquiries. *

***Surprises on Fediverse always.***

Like, this morning when I start visiting the various instances where I have accounts, friends, a presence.

And then I switch my *Pinafore client*, which is really useful for someone like me. *Easy to connect, one click instant switching*.

Except, it shows '*Internet Request Failed - Showing offline content*' when Todon.NL is the selected instance. A sign something is wrong, like the Net connection at our end being down, or even a remote server being offline for maintenance or other reason. That wasn't the case here though.

All the Details, plus *an official* ** Moving account announcement ** *for my current, main personal account*.

As usual, I love Writing, and this is Long Form prose. Lavishly illustrated, References and links included. A Web Magazine page I am proud of.

That is the *** Topic of today's Blog *** write.tedomum.net/rgx/todon-nl .

*This post is dedicated to Niklas @nipos@muensterland.social -- muensterland.social/@nipos/ , so was so gentle and welcoming when I joined Muensterland.social.*

>> I'd be more interested in this if they supported or even just

And I just got some info -- a new account followed my new muensterland.social account (SOON to be my Main -- @rgx@muensterland.social ) .

And on visiting his/hers profile I found this :

Hey! I'm Ilja! I'm admin and moderator of this instance, cyborg, and general waste of space, but trying to fix the latter. This is a single-user instance running on YUNoHost ( yunohost.org/ ), the most awesome OS for self-hosting and I strongly advise to try it out if you want to self-host. Whether you're a newbie (like I was) or an advanced sysadmin who just wants to get things done.

Will add this to an upcoming Blog post.

>> Yeah they only support vanilla , I thought

And that is so poor, slow, trembles if compared to the alternatives.

My "Pleroma as an Alternative to Mastodon" blog page, only a couple of days old, is high up on my stats -- 2nd place and moving up!

BTW -- Today's blog is hot read too.

@alex @rgx@muensterland.social @waltercool @rgx

@alex

Looking forward to it -- too many people just use it as the easiest way to get a flahsy new mastodon and impress their friends.

(even if Hugo and his staff are doing all the hosting, installation, config and day to day backups, etc).

He's competent, and a valuable service for those less inclined to look under the hood.

But No Glitch-Social or Pleroma instances are offered there, I think.

@alex

>> Read their terms of service.

Will do, but I had an inquiry about raising the damned 500 characters max toot limit in one of his instance, and itt was declined.

Too much work to be doing it manually, every time Eugen releases a revised version -- and he insists on burrying this limit in not one, but many locations in various source code files.

At this point, I gave up on mastodon, and moved to Glitch-Social and Pleroma.

Thanks Casey!! I just went to check, thought I had Catgram in my collection post, but not yet, will be adding it!

@stux

@iankenway Most excellent choices, well done. What a cool story, thanks Ian!

@zleap Trying is the best we can do, present the information the best we can and let them engage or not.

Great work, Paul, thank you. 👍
