I am considering adding the following phrasing to QOTO's ToC.. Before I do I'd like some feedback from the community

> While QOTO aims to provide a community where our users do not fear being punished for their personal opinions, that does not mean we allow people to disseminate ideologies that are abusive or violent towards others. Demonstrating support for or defending ideologies known to be violent or hateful is a bannable offense. This includes, but is not limited to: racial supremacy, anti-LGBTQ or anti-cis-gender/anti-straight, pro-genocide, child abuse or child pornography, etc. While we allow questions and conversation regarding these topics in general, doing so in bad faith will result in immediate expulsion.

Ugh, these new Twitter refugees are ruining the place for long-standing community members like me who have been here for ten days.

People who think they know everything are a great annoyance to those of us who do.

Please, take a moment to thank your insteance's admin for the work and money they put on this by just saying it directly, helping, donating, you pick what you find best!

I thank admins @freemo @trinsec and @khird for the excellent work they have done with this , thank you so much! It totally changed my experience! Also, here I feel like a citizen of Earth and not as one of a little isolated one :blobcatangel:

@frayoshi @freemo I'm not complaining - mostly because nothing to complain about, but also because I know what an enormous time/money/energy sink r...

We did federate with them when they existed, but it was at the explicit request of our LGBTQ community and for their safety, it is important to know why.

Many of the LGBTQ were monitoring accounts there for the purpose of warning their community of calls to violence and doxxing. Other options (like signing up directly on the server) for them would have put them at more risk so they were here with the purpose of safely monitoring while keeping their ip and other information private.

In fact the subscription feature we now have was specifically added to their server for their benefit, so they could follow those accounts without being identified as a follower, further protecting them.

It was discussed on multiple occasions if we could find some alternative and potentially block the servers but for many reasons discussed we decided it was best to keep federation. In the end being able to see bad-actors, and therefore be informed was a far better choice than being blind to their violence and crippling the victims in some vain attempt to spite the bad actors.

Every time I see 20+ users sign up in a matter of a few minutes I instantly think "What dumbass shit did Musk do now..."

Thanks to our friends from @FreeCAD to make us realize there is a GIMP emoji on Mastodon: :gimp:

How fun and cool is that?! 😎

@DecaturNature

Its either a lack of understanding or intentional misinformation. But its a common trope.

Basically many instances are under the false misconception that if they block a server, and a server they dontn block boosts content from it, then it can be seen by their server (or vice versa)...

The reality is that is false (we have tested it a few times and verified it is untrue)... you can only see a boosted post if you can see the original post. This is clear because boosting doesnt replicate the content, it just links it. Plus like i said we tested it.

@frayoshi @trinsec

Twitter refugees: if you are leaving Twitter for good, do NOT deactivate your account, just set it to private and leave it.

Otherwise you risk squatters taking your name and exploiting your reputation, manipulating your followers, or coercing you into buying it back from them.

Bots smell the blood in the water; let's not leave them chum.

Erindale started riding the mastodon too :ablobcatbongo:
