@timorl Generally a much better rule. But like all rules it must be applied with the awareness of the situation too. Sometimes it isnt always best to treat someone how they want to be treated, for their own good. But that can be a slippery slope too.

@VoidDiver Sounds reasonable, I can dig it (presuming i understood you correctly, my german is limited).

Anyone here who can recommend Mastodon accounts, instances or websites about hackers practicing ? @freemo

@LaFemmeQuiSourit Hmm thats a very specific ask I cant think of. Like I know some hckers around the fediverse, but none that i know to be poly. But let me reshare your post to my ~4k followers and see if any of them have a good recommendation for you.

@Gargron
Yea same here. Only my USA house has good delivery service really. But im out in cow country here.

Good luck man

@halcy

Ya know "treat people how you want to be treated" is a bitter sweet phrase for me.

I have always lived up to this, problem is people dont want to be treated the same way I like to be treated. Worse yet people treat me the way they want to be treated and it isnt at all how I want to be treated.

Damnit society!

@Gargron Damn dude where do you live. Today is a nice day in the netherlands but yesterday was like that

@snder Well residency means you have permission to live there without a set time limit. For most purposes it is as good as citizenship.

Citizenship as far as i know is mostly critical when it comes to stuff that wont effect me. For example the ability to vote, or if they will deport me if another country charges me criminally, or my ability to get a dutch passport, stuff like that. I'm not sure of the whole list.

@snder My dutch still isnt good enough to answer in dutch (thought I do know what you asked). So let me answer in english.

Basically it depends on what avenue you use. There is something called "The Dutch-American friendship treaty" which makes it a lot easier to apply than it would for others.

Long story short if you qualify preliminarily for the treaty you apply and you instantly get residency. Then over the course of 3 months there are many things you have to do to ensure you keep it. After that point I'd have to renew the permit periodically (which is garunteed almost if i keep up with the terms).

So i just had to submit a form, some money, and a stack of paperwork. Thats all.

Now that i have it next steps will be register for a BSN and my home, register a new company at the chamber of commerce, deposit money in that company account, etc.

Keep in mind residency is not citizenship.

@Gargron Any idea where I can get some of this paper to try. I am a sucker for stationary (particularly good paper and fountain pens)... just any paper of similar quality not this specific brand.

If all goes according to plan in the next day or two I will officially become a legal resident of the Netherlands. The hard .part will be making sure I keep my residency.

Should've checked before, but it apepars no one in the history of the world has ever run BSD on a Dell precision M2800.

hrmm...

@robcolbert You disagree with having any sort of code of conduct or just the one currently in place.

As a general rule there shouldnt really be much reason to hit people most of the time anyway, regardless of sex. But this meme still makes a valid point.

@mngrif A decentralized social media network where there is no such thing as a totalitarian authority controlling it.

Think e-mail but appled to social media

@mundauf Well that may be. the brain is a mystery and it is hard to speculate.

@pschwede yes well the truth is while in theory good and bad is easy to define (for me) i think we can agree in practice its never so easy to know or apply. But for me at least knowing the theory gives mre a basis on which to judge the application.

But yea its not a simple thing.
