Going backwardƧ FA$$$$$T by using Google & YouTube (without privacy filter sites...)

Using is like being used / abused and mostly about making them more money

Sometime I feel you're going backwardƧ FA$$$$$T using Google & YouTube without privacy filter sites...

I would prefer educating yourself more or improving habits in others as more of the main focus and activity as Google only without actually *improving people / their habits* is surely bad)

Use proven filters / redirects...
e.g. for
redirect.invidious.io/watch?v=

Use Less or more sites

TBT to when the very idea of ONLY A SINGLE MAPLE LEAF on the canadian flag was a front page shocker. (found this newspaper from 1964 stuffed in our old chimney flue)

"...leadership is suffering from a kind of moral bankruptcy, and has lost the ability to distinguish right from wrong"

The argument itself is freedom - Salman Rushdie quote [+ more]...

"We need all of us, whatever our background, to constantly examine the stories inside which and with which we live. We all live in stories, so called grand narratives.

Nation is a story.
Family is a story.
Religion is a story.
Community is a story.

We all live within and with these narratives.

And it seems to me that a definition of any living vibrant society is that you constantly question those stories. That you constantly argue about the stories. In fact the arguing never stops. The argument itself is freedom. It's not that you come to a conclusion about it. And through that argument you change your mind sometimes.…"

@matt In summary I think it's using Teamwork even as 'separate' shops (some might have same parent company!) + Catch-all-fish as a general focal point (1-stop-for-similar-shops etc), as well as easy transport and delivery for similar supplies (supermarkets even more, but almost any store with storage of similar generic / rebranded things).

Mastodon users posting for-profit links are against some of the ethos...? [use Invidious more-private links to same pages?]

Mastodon users posting for-profit links are against some of the ethos...?

There are tons of links here and they supply tons of adverts, tracking, ! Problematic no?

Q. Are for-profit links comparable with the Mastodon ideology or am I totally wrong in asking?

We could work more actively inside system to non-profit / free ideology...
- more warning tips by design or education
- better promoting of PeerTube or Invidious even if still using YouTube, can still filter it using Invidious)

Basically not letting Commercialism in (again & again)
+ even not feeding our people and 100,000,000 links to YT !

(or say 13million if there are 13million users per day posting 1 Google YoutTube link x how many clicks each post gets!)

Doing le$$ direct youtube.com links literally save$ the world from the money they gets and use against us- e.g. use:

I do, however, think it’s insidious to inject advertising into every pore —especially when those pores don’t belong to you, like when you’re the YouTube app..."

@matt Every wondered why almost always shop rivals are next to each other or in same space (often 2 big supermarkets facing each other)?

@artistsandhackers If you don't mind, send me a message or reply here so I don't forget...

@nicemicro Great, I didn't get the 2nd sentence / could you say that bit in other words?

@nicemicro
Hi try these privacy filtering links!

redirect.invidious.io/watch?v=

What do you think about using these link in the future? :D

Maybe #AI will overwhelm corporate social media with so much garbage perfectly designed to be irresistible to the algos, that it will drive everyone to find refuge here. Hopefully. #SocialWeb

The problem of #fashionistas in activism is the pushing of style and appearance over substance and meaningful action. These people are concerned with projecting a certain image or brand of activism, rather than engaging in the actual, messy effect of social change. The phenomenon of #fashionistas in activism poses challenges to the efficacy and integrity of grassroots movements:

Superficiality over Substance: Fashionistas prioritize surface-level aesthetics and trends over substantive analysis and action. They focus on creating a visually appealing image of activism, such as through trendy protest attire or social media posts, rather than engaging in deep-rooted grassroots activism that addresses real issues.
Performative Activism: Fashionistas engage in performative activism, where their actions are about signalling commitment to a cause rather than making contributions. Participating in protests or events primarily for photo opportunities or social media validation, rather than working towards change.
Exclusionary Practices: The emphasis on fashion and style creates barriers to participation for people who do not conform to slavish aesthetic norms. This marginalizes people from diverse backgrounds, experiences, and identities who do not fit into the narrow standards set by fashionistas within the movement.
Distraction from Core Issues: When activism becomes focused on appearances and trends, it detracts from the issues and objectives of the movement. Attention and resources are diverted to superficial aspects of activism, rather than towards addressing the causes of injustice and inequality.
Reinforcement of Consumer Culture: The influence of fashionistas reinforce consumerist attitudes and behaviours. This involves promoting consumer-driven solutions to social problems or aligning activism with commercial brands and products, rather than challenging the structures of capitalism and exploitation.
Dilution of Message and Impact: Activism that prioritizes style over substance dilutes the movement’s message and impact. When the emphasis is placed on spectacle and aesthetics, the underlying principles and goals of the movement become obscured and watered down, leading to reduced effectiveness in achieving meaningful change.

Addressing the problem of fashionistas in activism requires a commitment to centring authenticity, inclusivity, and meaningful action. This involves a culture of critical reflection, accountability, and solidarity. By prioritizing substance over style, activists work to building resilient, impactful, and inclusive movements. Best not to be a prat on this path, please.

@info And also to be honest solutions aren't seemingly really there apart from personally using something less or more... So while your points are good / sincere even it's like:

"What else to do in a locked / well-secured Capitalist system"
(of course "try some things constantly" is the answer but not 1,2,3,4,5 steps to kill things or even reduce them significantly for most people's confidence. So while for me or you or anyone it's enough to score anything, for others even buying into it actually helps them (really, I almost mind less or sympathise now people using mobiles without consideration as it's counter-intuitive to use google Android but then not want to use most of it or the bad side).

Culture starts with the 1 or 2 like a petri dish...

First things first (waiting while everything adjusts also to be a lot more ready)...

@info I don't think it's about closed web as much as 'less commercially exploiting web' or similar that people want (it's a different stance even if looks like they are closing).

I read hamishcampbell.com/fediverse-h

and basically still feel after reading "We are not ready or even close, though great sentiments".

And the order of being ready seems very important first and needed before jumping into more unknown things / magnifying more problems with more people / involving more commercial entities... even if all is happening all at the same time, this seems very much first things first and to wait until it is much better...

Measurably - We are not ready for anything more... communication / self-trust / will-power isn't here so mixing more 'lesser' trained people = less clarity or more of the same or worse...

@info Even though I just wrote something for-blocking, I think this could also work (showing my flexibility) BUT... (AND A BIG "BUT" HERE...)

BUT for the level of people now I've tried and tested. If really I only found 5 people say on whole of Fedi that can even hold conversation... or simply can believe in anti-google stuff (many devs still love it / see it as ok) then it's not worth going all-in with META or BLUESKY etc - because we have no plan, no strong friendship, have our own family we are in a infinite loop and almost bluescreen of death with. Nobody wants to lock horns or spend time for 'maybe' a better outcomes... so they are stuck and using more of the same google youtube links shows for me just how uncaring or un-meticulous people are... so why speed that up by bring twitter like people here (said kinda and just for short).

We are measurably shit (uncommunicative or in SMS mode here, don't believe in anyone, aren't anti- to the core sometimes... so anyway said in positive light, we are not ready- I've / we probably spent most of our life trying so wasn't waste but I don't ask people to go to the gym to lift so heavy weights, they are untrained for it).

"Hiding" is slowing down I would say and building culture start from communications, which again positively I said people say "I don't have time" is because "I don't make time, EVER" so people don't see TIME is needed, and non-perfect ways between is to make personal and global progress. The system only makes perfect ways and that kills us faster / is a debt more than progress every time..

"So go back to your cave people if you can't make friends with me / others..." is what I'd say for now

(all is changeable in what I said when more measurably the signs show it - as 1 or many here)

Universal Basic Income or a way to share / spread / grow... the money and the friendship? Our current systems can't cover everything so we need this level of teamwork...

@onepict Just getting money to people is a problem and political - so I see this as a main block to growing.

(I don't like using banks for example or the 100 conditions for having one or the fees for each transaction makes it deliberately useless).

So this is one part which something 'like' crypto (but not that) can do IF NOT universal friendship and giving also in between... So many players here, but separate it seems and also trust issues perhaps (or not respecting people without coding skills eliminating participation which we all need even if it dilutes things to redistribute time, skills EVERYTHING IN ONE POT!)

We have to respect money, but also respect it less each year by finding a way to
a) not use it
b) use and transport it easier
c) something else so baselines and roots die out... (sharing, even embracing capitalism inside a better bubble of 'us' and not 'them' etc)

AI makes more of the same uncaring / less ethical future with whatever they can latch on to + Friendship as the answer to everything?

@witchescauldron █ I like your segmenting of each point as a paragraph which seems well thought about, so it's not dismissive what I say next, that

█ I eventually will group these things perhaps as "already happening but just faster using AI" because "they"/the owners were never ethical or caring and all tech advances that as extension of themselves or like-minded warlords and servants... (it seems right to say that, and yes AI makes more of the same uncaring future with whatever they can latch on to)...

█ Have you reached more answers / solutions since we last commented on each others posts a while back?... Seems we know or are aware but friendship hard to maintain without others / even 'us' as peers or any level above...

(Friendship is my current answer for everything now as baseline which eventually gets us there, as "the best we have" and not just focussing on "them" without positive output at the same time personally or globally - often both).

Developers don't care so much about spreading google or commercial links and supplying advert money from OUR clicks, sourced FROM Fediverse / Mastodon posts to THEM... (without education our users are weakest links)...

@witchescauldron
A tough choice for movements when @Gargron@mastodon.social etc (and others I've questioned) are not thinking about how Google YouTube.com links are helping supply MA$$ advert money to BigTech...

This adds towards the imbalance and eventuality that *they will encroach on us using all that money*. They might not have developed Mastodon as a link machine but have to respect this and change + use redirect / proxy link to suppress opposition.

We could filter all these things using redirected integrated link or as added option in Mastodon to offer it using auto-added links like:

redirect.invidious.io/watch?v=

Even if the original youtube.com link is also there ADD THE ALTERNATIVES + LINK UP WITH @invidious

and even collect all the good guys' software and UNITE!

vs

Post title again:

Developers don't care so much about spreading Google or commercial links and supplying advert money from OUR clicks, sourced FROM Fediverse / Mastodon posts to THEM... (without education our users are weakest links)...

LEFT OVER / SIMILAR PARTS:

Pushing de-federation and going away from isn't wrong and seems the natural binary choice when you get down to:

"for profit / monopoly monster, greedy gods"
vs.
"something else with more meaning... decentralisation, Mastodon ethics"

So to attempt to block or do something about this is natural if there is no other way technically or by design to avoid Meta BlueSky etc. Legal notices or clauses I see helping with countering this, and by not adding somehow this leaves that door open with those we know have money as priority and without using same morals/thinking. Basically they get the best from or rape open source kind of worlds for their own pockets mostly)... <==== a classic problem to solve to stop them piggy-backing + then fucking everything.

So my answer to all this is some legal disclaimers and notices on all Mastodon footers for example to say:

"No to scraping / collection / commercial use etc
AND
creativecommons.org/ licenses by each person

A simple option and checkbox to enable/disable would mean the space usually under text box (or wherever) would make it UNMISSABLE as a legal notice just say "It's conditional for corporations to get consent first" etc

Disclaimers and creative commons we all need anyway probably as creators and the commercial world we now know growing underneath us.

⭐ I guess more than "closed" or "open" web it's more about "not for commercial use" / "non-commercial / non-profit" ...

Middle East / war / misinfo and disinfo

Please please please make sure that you wait for information from a source that you trust before amplifying it.

There's a reason they call it "the fog of war" and in a stressful time like this incorrect information is often posted -- sometimes by mistake, sometimes by intent. So it's worth double-checking before boosting or sharing links!
