@Xipher Some step-by-step by someone also welcome to change. Often it isn't clear all the things needed to consider so "just change" isn't as simple as that as certain data or exporting / importing needs literal hand-holding else fails when something fail or doesn't transfer or have a way...
So some advice where to change mail would be good and how...
(eeven people could search and _maybe_ find a good guide)...
Are you someone who's keeping your 'adult' writing on Google Drive or in Google Docs?
Yeah... you might... wanna not do that, it'll get removed with no warning, notification, or recourse due to Google's dipshit "AI" scanning documents and removing anything "Obscene".
A real life example of this just happened with someone and its not the first time.
Please reconsider using Google for... anything, literally anything these days, even email, just don't.
@MastodonEngineering FYI, in the upgrade notes there's no mention of changing the old default nginx site file to support the new maximum attachment size.
"client_max_body_size 80m;" if unchanged causes a response of "413Request Entity Too Large" when trying to attach a file greater than 80mb of course.
There's a mention of editing the nginx.conf for the streaming server changes but nothing about the limit above shipped with previous versions that needs to be changed when upgrading.
How intense are these new features like search? Some kind of gauge would be interesting like "Lighteight" or "Intensive" etc as comparison to previous or standalone feature...
@boop @MastodonEngineering
Additionally to the server resources comment, I was thinking if there is a way of measuring or stating clearly how much more each major release needs as requirement - like how much does this step up from previous version or let's just say having Live Feeds on?
Since everything gets bumped up to higher requirements, then makes sense higher requirements = higher resources... so just a little take on that would be interesting.
Not all things need this look but some features could be ranked as "intensive" or "lightweight" by just an opinion or comparison to last version (or some other way).
Thoughts welcome even if nothing concrete.
#Mastodon 4.2 is out! This massive update features new search functionality and many usability improvements. See the extensive changelog and upgrade instructions here:
@MastodonEngineering Hi, just wondering if there is a way to import anywhere my exported backup from Mastodon?
Like you have Mastodon exported stuff downloaded... but can you import it anywhere currently to get data back to something much more presentable?
Can you save your posts to an offline readable format?
The older versions leave 'backup' meaning a exported Directory of pics + 1 file of all posts (outbox.json) which is not HUMAN READABLE.
So 'just asking' and thanks- know it's not easy! :p
We are looking for a new member for our #Mastodon core team to work with @Gargron, @renchap and @Claire on building the Mastodon #backend and web app!

#Fediverse Fallout > #Admins and #Instance #Moderators Lacking Activity
People that don't strengthen their users (to educate, improve mindset and actively) I think are losing eventually from a kind of from the fizzling of thermodynamics which is happening every day as matter transforms perhaps with less potential meaning...
So as in #physics the thermodynamics (conversion of different forms of energy) can be seen as happening, which might not be seen as "end of the world" or even that important today, but heat or endothermic reaction on Fediverse is simply lost if people are not aligning better AT SOME POINT, or having better thoughts and habits towards the overall mission (there could / should be many).
I know some fallout of energy is needed to exist and natural but as learning / existing goes IF NOT BEING TAUGHT / GUIDING BETTER IN PRACTICES or PARTICIPATING then you eventually set yourself up for a fall AND EVEN REVOLUTION AGAINST YOURSELF!!! (people stay unintelligent as much less opportunity and less encouragement to do better is there, people are left to their own devices and less with others communally).
#Physics huh?
#Fediverse #Admins and #Instance #Moderators #Activity #Participation = Eventually all is #Political in the Personal sense.
@barefootstache Seems like a perfect opportunity to add any lifestyle choices you think would compliment this (knowing it's always going to incomplete somewhat) or any new things lately?

When you get old, the new technology seems against the natural order of things...
quote I guess paraphrased by Douglas Adams and taking from another post about it... https://boing.world/@pre/112606180833429872 / from Adam Dalliance @pre
"the natural order of things" perhaps is what comes into focus more when things like your age or enough time has elapsed, and realisation comes that you're not so interested in those things or you realise the dangers more than anything... perhaps also you realise you were half-tricking yourself or allowing yourself to be tricked in order to avoid core problems which there was never a really easy way for other than head on.
Naturally no longer are some things as important to you - and occasionally the original problem comes back into focus again... or another distraction n between.
But the "natural order" also as a phrase perhaps directly reflects nature and the order of that more than "IT" (Information Tech).
You might have chose what technology to use and what not to bend over for or what not compromise to 'IT'.... certainly interesting to think about as nature vs. I.T. and the "order" of priority or limits of IT before nature goes / disappears / energy used up....
Been thinking for a while about Facebook's AI Terms and Conditions switcheroo.
People all joined Facebook because they didn't want a public blog, especially one their boss might read. They wanted one only their friends could read.
And now Facebook are gonna just feed the whole lot into their mega-mind and let every advertiser and recruiter and boss you ever work ask it about you.
There's no way to stop them coz they'll do it even if you object, even if it's illegal, even if they expect to get a giga-fine. I don't expect they really honour delete requests. Things sometimes pop back into existence eh?
"It could be that people do not know that there is a slow paced option and/or do not know the harms that come out of a fast pace lifestyle.
Thus, those of us who have achieved harmony among the two lifestyles should at least lead by example."

#FreeSchool = #Notes #Quotes from #Books #Videos #Talks #Websites all around #DIY Care# and #Caring as our main #Politics / #Politics
#Degrowth / PostGrowth
#WellbeingEconomy #DoughnutEconomics
#CaringEconomy / #CareEconomy / #Partnerism
"Free School" is a term for a movement born from the 1960's / 70's using educational living & learning practice towards #Caring & #DIY with all others (all at the same time - not an after-thought or specialism in 1 field or person who is a #compartmentalised person ignoring others in other fields). Caring to involves more things, increasingly aiming towards everything...
Posts are 1-line #Notes and #Quotes that links all other things (it's all relative).
Long comments use CW to shorten post vertically and add a 'show more' button to reveal more text if you want it. Long posts might seem bad but it's giving chance to more connection and understanding.
All things towards #Freedom (life moving from Shorter to Deeper thought).
Freedom doesn't come from short-depth lifestyles / short lines of text / ignoring / #inaction. Not less communication between lovers of similar things. MORE!)

Trust comes from "slowly but surely"... Doesn't have to be all-in, but peace doesn't come from one-way short messaging on 'social' Mastodon either - collecting memes and cats only is limited!
Remember we need develop better humans as well as 'develop' code on computers etc.
☮ Peace needs more... even to save all types of cats!
Get in touch - I'm someone that cares for everything because it's all human-related...
Human #chats welcome - I using #Jitsi audio chat which uses JUST browser (ANY PLATFORM + 2minutes to enter !)
(i.e. no-install / no account / no google / instant / privacy-respecting / safe-enough, etc!) Really the best out there - any platform / device! Instant audio chat !
Just ask for a link and prepare a few topics!
#AltText used (when I remember).
FREE WORK - I do free audio and video editing (anything considered - just ask).
Again - Creating Trust needs a bit of trust given "slowly but surely"... not all-in... being relaxed about it... but has to be more - 'working' like a 2nd job towards peace because your job isn't going to do it / it's now allow by State to get there! War increases prices etc ☮
So do "peace" as a side-job like it was your real job in the world, parallel to the Capitalism (Trap) you (we) were born into. We have to accept that and fight out of that and not be comfortable in it.
Heart and Soul all the way.
