So obviously we've all been paying a huge amount of attention to Musk's acquisition of Twitter. Understandably!

But imo warnings that the site is about to slide into a far-right extremist hellscape are unfounded. The fact is that Twitter is too generalist. It will take *a lot* to shift tthe current balance of ~ 5% ISIS/QAnon/Neo-Nazi shit, 95% dunking on Musk and crypto bros; towards more like 50/50. I don't see it.

To this extent I'm really interested to know how the age breakdown of people on the #Fediverse. On one hand it would seem to make sense to me that most people here remember the "old internet" before the centralization and they're here to rekindle that flame of independence. On the other hand the youths are generally pretty up on this whole technology thing. I grew up on the internet and since then smartphones have become even more ubiquitous.

What's the long-term impact of a social media hub of like-minded radicals, whipping themselves into fervor over threats real and imagined? We've already seen the results of that once. What happens in round 2?
