You had me, until the end where you indicate to inform the admin of a problem post(er). You do realize that the user can block the user and/or the instance, right? That should be the avenue, don't burden the instance admin with this - They have enough issues with running things.
This is the way it's usually done on OpenSoftware communities. Many of us old timers resent the Birdsite hordes coming over and demanding change. If they want change, then stay on the Birdsite - it's probably far safer than Mastodon. Quite frankly the experience on the Fediverse is more REAL life than the walled garden that is the Birdsite. I've been on the Birdsite since it began and even though I post about geopolitics and war, have never been bothered or let other people bother me. I don't want a nanny to set the rules for me, since I can do that myself.

I agree with this! I've been on Twitter since the early days and I post about war and geopolitics. If anybody is going to be harrassed it's someone like moi. It easy to deal with and the Birdsite of late included tools to restrict comments on posts etc. Methinks many of these folks are used to the echo chamber and some probably need reassurance by the choir. That's my take - It's life, just because we have a new medium doesn't change human behaviour. I'm still on the Birdsite and will be on Mastodon. Different crowds or was until the Birdsite hordes came over. I also agree with the poster who was pondering why they left the walled garden of the Birdsite and came to the Federation where things have always been a bit wild - Think Usenet before it became all spam/UCE!
This isn't hating on them, just wondering why they have to be coddled so much. <shrug>
Oh and @freemo, I appreciate all that you do providing a great server service - You're quite reasonable and I'm sorry that folks have been complaining to you about me. FTR no one complained to me personally about anything I said. :-) I'd like to contribute financially, but will have to wait until the new year to sort things out. Pension is increased next year. ;=)

To me it's just ridiculous because they cry about evil fascists and terrible people on Twitter and then leave the safety of the walled garden for the wastelands filled with barbarian raiders and then complain about that too

O I was but that even happens IRL. Just block them and move on. Fortunately my followers would back me up too, that helps emotionally. I'm a little older and have been through life. None of the abuse really had me worried, but then I'm used to living and going about my business in a rough area.

Strange, I've been on the Birdsite for years, and never had this problem, even though I was/still am publishing political stuff. Any that did were promptly blocked. You folks must practice poor security if you were doxxed that easily. How do you folk function in public, or do most of you live comfortable middle class lives?!

@daviding referred me to check out Mastodon. He did the same thing in 2009 with Twitter and other social media channels. Usually takes some time to learn, to connect and figure out potential benefits - Now it's time to test this one.
@acjay Ah OK was going from memory - I'm not surprised, guess he's overloaded with work maintaining what servers he does have. I had a few conversations with him a couple of years ago - seemed genuine and nice.
