Hi Mastodon 🙋🏼♀️ I guess it‘s time for an introduction!
I’m Stina and currently working on my #PhD in #Neuroscience at Gothenburg University in Sweden. My focus: gut-brain communication in eating behavior and emotionality, specifically investigating the influence of #SexSteroids and potential #SexDifferences.
Besides, I have been communicating science on social media since 6 years now and became a docent in #ScienceCommunication about a year ago.
Looking forward to connecting with you!

Some people just don't want to be found too easily.
#fediblock ed fedisearch.skorpil.cz, yet another customised crawler that adds our users to his search engine without prior consent, even when they opted out of indexing or had #nobot on the bio. He seems like a nice dude who means we'll, and he did fix most of this stuff already, but after 2 days there are still problems.
I've had it with profile search engines that don't respect the need for obscurity, with no opt-in policy.
Watch out #MastoAdmins this account is going around pretending it's a malware scanner.
'More than 1.3mn people in China were under medical observation this week as close contacts of cases of Covid-19, the highest level since the pandemic erupted out of Wuhan, and an increase of more than 300,000 in just a few days.
The soaring number of close contacts, driven by a rise in cases to near record levels, is putting immense strain on a Covid-19 policy that in contrast with the rest of the world aims to eliminate rather than live with the virus.'

Moderation meta - Santa Clara Principles
For anyone feeling pressured to join in with the #FediBlock dogpile on the well-meaning noobs at journo.host (or any other server for that matter), I strongly recommend having a read and a think about the Santa Clara Principles On Transparency and Accountability in Content Moderation:
@freemo well done on the article. Despite your obvious anger, you've managed to keep to the facts.
FYI, qoto.org is still listed on https://instances.social
When you boost anything (such as #politics), how do you add content warning to a boost that didn’t have a CW to start with? #Mastodon #ContentWarnings? And another question is “How come suggested hashtags aren’t in CamelCase?”
Might there be a glut of software engineers soon? Perhaps the pompous Birdsite employees that left voluntary will regret that decision in the near future? Just some musings of my own …

Journal suggesters
Each of the large publishers has their own journal suggester.
Paste your abstract in the white rectangular box.
Then click on "Reveal Suggested Journals" at the bottom of your screen.
It will give you a list of suggested journals with the most relevant ones on top.
Thanks to @MustaqBilalPhD on the bird app for the original idea.
Here are a few suggester URLs:

'At the time, Argentina’s regime, the bloodiest in modern South American history, was rounding up thousands of real and presumed leftists and putting them in torture camps or killing them outright in what came to called the “dirty war.” The dictatorship lasted seven years, during which at least 8,960 people disappeared, according to official estimates. Some human rights groups put the figure at 30,000.'
"There is a mass exodus underway from Twitter and Facebook. After decades of eye-popping growth, these social media sites are contracting at an alarming rate."
