Good results so far.. some server admins told us to fuck off and wouldn't even listen. But quite a few so far have told me we are now removed from the block list. Several others are reviewing our timeline and will make a decision.
I expect many instances wont listen since they never bothered to fact check the accusations in the first place. But the fact that in less than an hour many have already agreed to unblock us is enough for me to consider this a successful interaction.
Journalists want to re-create Twitter on Mastodon. Mastodon is not into it. - Columbia Journalism Review
Everyone please be aware that the service we used to use that provided tickers went down and doesnt plan to go back up.. This unfortunately slows down the default theme.
As such I switched the default theme to the no-ticket theme and this works just fine. However im not sure it will help for people already signed up on the server.
To fix the problem please go intto your preferences and change the theme to the no-ticket theme.
[This](https://www.vox.com/future-perfect/23462333/sam-bankman-fried-ftx-cryptocurrency-effective-altruism-crypto-bahamas-philanthropy) interview with Sam Bankman-Fried has me gobsmacked. He says all the stuff out loud that he shouldn't. I almost feel bad for his lawyers. Almost.
Interesting, apparently about half of the fediverse are people in their 40s and 50s.
Can't wait for this show, tomorrow evening. Spooky historical sci-fi drama from the makers of Dark. #1899Netflix

@obi oooh QFT! So many memories 😂
There is DEFINITELY going to be some brain ache. I remember going through it when I was a student, and I already knew both quantum mechanics and field theory so I thought it wouldn't be so bad to just put the two things together. I was WRONG 😂
Joking aside, there might be some "energy barrier" that has to be overcome, but it's going to be worth it because it's just a beautiful and elegant theory (if you're into that)
Why is Python the ideal language for beginners to learn?
Let's look at the main reasons:
• It's more accessible for a beginner, allowing you to focus on programming concepts and not language detail. Too many give up coding early on–Python makes this less likely
• It's very powerful–which means you can write any program you'll need and it scales well as you deal with more complex programs and larger data sets
• It's very broad–it has applications in very many fields and not just a narrow scope. It also has libraries for very many fields!
• As it's very popular, it has a large user-base which is very helpful, so you'll find a lot of resources (not just mine!) and a lot of help from the community
• It's a language that's still improving and progressing rapidly. Latest speed improvements is just one example
--
The main thing you're learning is programming, and not a programming language. The language itself is "just" a tool, but you don't want the tool to get in the way of learning, as would happen with some other languages.
Once you become proficient in programming in one language, it's easier to switch to/learn other languages
So my advice is, yes, start with Python and stick with it until you feel you're very proficient. If and when you need other languages, they'll be easier to learn then…

Recently, we experimented with a new social media account on #Mastodon. Now we've taken a few steps further. We run our own server open to all.
It's great to be on the #Fediverse with vivaldi.social

The Orion Launch Abort System (LAS) is designed to carry the crew to safety in the event of an emergency during launch or ascent.
The abort motor on Orion’s launch abort system generates 400,000 pounds of thrust in a matter of milliseconds to quickly propel the crew module away from danger in case of a launch failure.

World Population Angst
8 Billion People.
I just can’t wrap my head around that. I know, we’re trying to talk about how strong we are and how good we can be to each other, but I keep thinking of the #climatecrisis and #wealthgap and #biodiversityloss and yet we keep making more people. I want to be proud and strong but I think I’m mostly just worried.
