Also, if you remove the stop sign, they'll drive right through the interection without stopping, if no other cars are coming.

@icedquinn

I didn't mean to pass any judgement here. A lot of people aren't aware of that. The people who you heard it from may not know themselves.

The truth is…

Press Secretary Jen Psaki became infected with COVID-19 because she didn’t wear an N95 respirator.

Psaki doesn’t wear a respirator when she gives her press briefings to the White House correspondents.

According to the CDC, none of the White House correspondents who were infected by Psaki are considered close contacts.

(In epidemiology, a “close contact” is anyone who was close enough to an infected person to possibly become infected themselves. It’s used for contact tracing to locate people who may have become infected to help prevent further spread of disease, among other things.)

You have a very tame and trusting dog to fall asleep right in your hand like that.

The optimal speed depends on many things but typically it is between 55-75 kph (35-45 mph) for petrol-powered passenger vehicles.

You can enter your own make and model at that website and it will calculate some data specific to your car.

Flash Gordon Conquers the Universe: Doom of the Dictator (1940)

This is the final episode of the film series in which Ming is defeated (no spoiler – it’s in the title!)

"Flash Gordon Conquers the Universe" was produced in the US shortly after the start of World War II, when the issue of whether the United States should enter the war was a hotly debated topic.

I suspect it would eventually develop issues with aiming accuracy on the horizontal axis, also.

Actually, cars are much more effecient at slower speeds.

Energy saving tip number 13

Eat plants…

Calorie for calorie, a plant-based diet is much more energy efficient than feeding those plants to animals and then eating the animals. Beef requires about 53 times as much food energy than if you just ate those plant calories directly. (Source: ourworldindata.org/grapher/ene)

Eating “lower on the food chain” will also help to alleviate the global food shortages that are expected due to the war in Ukraine.

@icedquinn

FYI, the phrase "mouth breather" is an epithet. It's a derogatory term for a Christian or a gentile.

Another thing you can do to save heat from hot water is to stop the drain of your sink or tub/shower to prevent the hot water from going down the drain.

Let the water sit in the sink for a couple of hours before you let it drain. That way the heat from the hot water will be released into the room to help heat the living space, instead of being wasted down the drain.

This saves a surprising amount of energy because water holds many times as much heat as air does.

(They make heat-recovery heat exchangers for the drian that can do this automatically, but it's really just as easy to get in the habit of doing it yourself.)

It's one my favorites, too. It was a funny premise, and as you say, it was well executed.

I vaguely remember the character. I think he was the pilot who scraped the paint off the real spaceship when they were pulling out of spaceport.

@trinsec

Yeah, I didn't think of those. They were 1997 and 1999. I don't remember any black characters in Galaxy Quest, must have been a minor role. I think of GQ and MIB as comedies, but if I can say that "The Absent-Minded Professor" is a scifi, then those certainly are.

Will Smith is kind of an exception, having done many great scifi films.

I actually found one that was done back in the mid-20th century that had a black character. Maybe I'll include it in this series.
