C-SPAN website has been down all day.

Anyone know if they are still broadcasting on the cable systems?

@Paul_Aguayo

Parece aterrador.
Justo a tiempo para Halloween.

@freemo

Oh, I didn't know that. I thought the mutlicore processors could handle multithreading natively.

@freemo

Not really. Thread support has been in the kernel since post-2.6.

(You do realize that multiprocessing IRL requires that you have multiple personality disorder?)

@freemo

Was that multithread or multiprocess?

@vern

Well, first off, you can say "fuck" instead of "frick" if you want to.

I'm so stupid that I don't even know what self-deprecation is.

Retro SciFi Film of the Week…

Justin Time (2010)

A lousy, racist film. Every so often I’ll do a (film of the week) about a bad movie, but this one is not funny bad, it’s awful and disrespectfully bad. It’s a kids movie about a device that can freeze time. It’s a trite plot and this film executes it about as poorly as I’ve ever seen.

For those of you who still don’t understand what I’m talking about when I critique a film with subtle racism, this one is an example where the racism is so blatant that even a kid can see it.

Definitely not recommended unless you are studying racism in film and need to see an example where subtle racism is clearly evident in the cast of characters.

Reposting this to the local timelime because I think it's funny...

Congratulations to Rishi Sunak on becoming the Prime Minister of the UK, and the first Asian and Hindu PM.

And congratulations to the UK for another peaceful transfer of power under trying conditions.

@peterdrake

It's a BASH compound command. Like a for/next loop...

for x in y; do list; done

where "x" is a variable, "y" is a list of words, "list" is a list of commands. Each time through the loop, x gets set to the next word in the "y" list of words.

It's not a function and actually has little to do with what you were talking about. I just threw it out there to jovially add to the confusion.

@peterdrake

The syntax should explicitly indicate the preposition.

For example, this would be more clear:

for x in y; do ...

😄

@johnabs

I'm sorry to hear this.

Were you wearing a respirator when you were around the students? Even if both your wife and you wore respirators, you'd need to wear them 100% of the time, because the virus can hang around in the air for many hours. So, for example, if you went into the bathroom and removed your mask there and then an hour later your wife went in there and removed hers, then she could breathe in the virus.

It's very difficult to live in the same house with someone who has COVID-19 and not become infected. You need to isolate the infected person in a separate, area and control air flow so that no air flows from that area into the rest of the house.

I hope you get better soon.

Are you on Paxlovid?
