It really is insane. WE don't need that.

In Hong Kong, the protesters seem to be using small laser pointers and zapping the cameras to disrupt them.

It's a nightmare if things keep going this way.

Even people who are digitally literate might see Luddite action as appropriate.

This apparatus has to be stopped.

Yes, I read that part too. Really difficult times in the Soviet Union, even before they were invaded.

Stalin was a cruel man, sadly he got to power and decimated most other leadership in the country.

That detail about people trying to make underwear (possibly hard to get at the time I imagine) from the small parachutes is very interesting. The ladies probably paid a heavy price for being caught.

That is a really sad story, for someone so brilliant to end up the way Warhorse described. 😞

Peace be upon Him.

@Warhorse

@mngrif Driving a stick?

As in driving a manual transmission vehicle? just to clarify. Sorry. 😄

@togs I liked that page too, and the low requirements, specially for someone considering running a small, personal instance in a home server.

Karl, indeed -- riding a motorcycle without a helmet is asking for trouble. Too easy to get a major injury, and maybe turn into a vegetable, to be supported by someone. Or dead.

We have a publicly funded health insurance system in Canada, like they do in UK and most other developed countries. To allow someone to carelessly risk head injuries that could cause big costs to the system is unacceptable to most people.

Surveillance is everywhere in the UK apparently (haven't visited), not even disguised but sold as public safety.

George Orwell was prescient.

China is EVEN worse, there AI is monitoring all the camera feeds.

@mngrif The American $1 note was a popular one for cyclists -- some carried one on the tool kit when riding. The tough paper it was made of made it a good way to patch a cut tire, as long as it was not a catastrophic failure. Fold it up a bit, mount the tire with the bill inside on the ripped area, inflate and ride.

Our canadian bills are not made from that new strong polymer, Australian invention, never tried but it might be good for the same job.

Sadly, that would cost you $5 CAD, the smallest bill we have nowadays.

We got the Loonie $1, the Twoonie $2, then $5 polymer bill.

I really, really love the older, silver coinage. That is REAL money -- worth it's weigh in Troy Ounces, 90% silver on US pre 1965 coinage.

Even the sound those coins make, jingling in your pocket, is a delight. Crystalline!

@mngrif That was a nice explanation and welcome.

Would you recommend locking down the account in that way? New here, just asking. 😺

@mngrif if your devices can support the HIGH, Japanese band channels 13, 14, it could be a good way around it too.

Some do, others not, switch them to Asia as wifi domain in their settings to enable high channels above 11.

@mngrif 5 GHz band comes in very hand in those situations; as long as your devices support it. 😔

2.4 GHz one is just too narrow.

Even with that Dual Band and the huge number of channels on 5 GHZ, some ass* is overlapping on mine.

@_lunawinters Glad to hear that, Aaditi. Have a good evening there - saturday morning here, cold but sun shining lifts our spirits. 😃

On a quick visit, it seems a well laid out personal Blog, visually it's pretty, well done.

One of the articles I looked at:

nathawatbrothers.net/beware-fa

...although I don't think FB would be able to charge personal users, they do milk advertising to the highest possible level.

Since they have awful privacy and cooperated blindly with political marketing in the past (2016 election US, Brexit campaign) I have been staying away.

@Narendra, welcome. You could place more information on your profile, and make some general posts, maybe a personal introduction.

This is a nice instance/server to be in. 😃

@users That spike around November 8 is fun to watch. 😏

Posts up too! :thumbsup_hmn_h2:

@mngrif It's funny how different countries have different denominations. A 20 cent coin is also available in , good in any of the countries using the Euro.

While here in Canada and the US, it's a quarter, 25 cents instead. 50 cent pieces do exist, but are very rare.

Quite the contrary in Europe, where they circulate widely.

... Installing, Thank you!

@slowlyapp@twitter.com Android version runs really well on this environment, have been using it so for 5 months or so. Even with the NEW Web version of the app, I still remain with the Android one, feels comfortable..
