@Sphinx Maybe they used the dashes to show that each letter's sound is there, not necessarily having a pause between each.

'erl' is really weird to me.

@Sphinx My pronunciation would match their example listed as correct - I wouldn't pause as their '-' marks might suggest, hence I joined the three sounds.

Definitely not 'erl'. That would sound weird.

I just tried a couple of things.

- one, send a message to a group while not following it yet (spam could be a problem soon). Not sure if it went thru.

- two, signed up to a group via the gup.pe website, and it worked perfectly.

I remember our professor drawing diagrams in the board, and explaining the functions of each of the core internet protocols. TCP and IP are brilliant, having been created to handle situations with massive network failures, like a nuclear attack.

[honest, the whole project was funded by DARPA, way back in 70s. Cold War times]

I would think that having common words, pre-existing into the language used for the new software and features would make it easier for people.

In Brazil I see many people using English words or even hashtags, a modism, when sometimes they do not comprehend well the meaning of these.

If an appropriate word did not exist, then an adaptation with clear spelling in the local language, and resulting in somewhat similar sound to the original foreign word could be a good idea, possibly.
