@baschi29 Hash tag seraches -- will diaplay any Toots containing that hash that the local instance already has.

In the case of instances that have server blocks, their searches might not retrieve results we can see here; in some cases, people in there might not ever see our toots here, due to their admin's option of blocking others.

@baschi29 Searching is done locally, in the instance's storage.

Here at Qoto we have Full Word Search enabled -- a great feature, so you can search using a word or two, and retrieve posts including it.

Many instances disallow that, as it takes processor and RAM to deliver. They might only allow hash tag searches, which is way more limited.

If it is here at Qoto let me know -- we can ask our admin to look at and fix it if needed.

@globcoco I had this error before and inquired with Nolan, it was an instance configuration problem.

@Phaedrus
Sadly they would get to the top and take over power -- this is got to be the most corrupt, revolting and incompetent bunch possible.

@globcoco

Yes, I don't enjoy wadding into my main email account so I use some others for Forums work, which also produce a lot of emails.

And ocassionally remove some newsletters too, if I am tired of seeing and not reading them.

@DavidBlue

@globcoco Write.freelyy instances are self funded and don't require users to pay, although some might accept donations.

It's not a bad thing to support Write.as - so they can keep advancing and improving WF. There are still needed functions.

At WF instances we don't get the Snap.as or other special things write.as has, for their paid customers. But the service is fully functional imo.

I never posted a single page at my write.as blog account, since I found the others more open and cost free.

@Phaedrus That guy looks like slick used car salesman. And has the attittude of one too.

Wrong for Secretaty of State, but then the current Administration is a complete disaster, from the very top, down.

@globcoco It is one of the many perks we have here at Qoto. Full text Search is another -- and I can easily find things I wrote 6 months ago, using a keyword or two.

Most instances don't have that.

@freemo is our admin and a competent one. It's thanks to him and his dedication that we have all that. Boos, meet a new member, a fellow Writer I just invited. 😄

@freemo

REally ? That would be wonderful, please set it up and let me know -- I was going to put out a RFC, but if it's in place I will go straight into the Announcement phase.

It could be popular and attract new Discourse users too. There isn't any good place for talking about Pinafore atm.

@zleap

@globcoco

We get too many emails, and I do receive lots of those newsletters; most go on unread, as I am already busy. But sometimes one will catch my eye, and take me in to read at The Atlantic, so I keep it coming.

@DavidBlue

@freemo

I really think Paul's group would benefit from their own subforum -- the forum structure as it is is labyrinthine for someone just arriving. A direct link to their own subforum would greatly focus things.

BTW --- I was going to ask -- Could I propose a new Pinafore Client subforum?

It is wonderful software and has no home or proper documentation in the Fedi or Web. I plan to develop written manual for it, but a forum can offer dialogue and a place for Q&A, etc.

Would advertize it widely if we got one. Under Projects. Email not needed for it, I think

@zleap

@globcoco Sent you the invite.

Qoto is a mastodon instance, like your own Mamot account. Mostly English speakers, with a focus in science and STEM topics. But not strictly.

A good mastodon place to be.

Wordsmith.social is a Write.freely instance, so good for blogs, and has a very generous allowance for free users, reason I recommended it to you.

@freemo

>> by the way this is a good reason not to delete inactive accounts I havent thought of. Our policy (though I never wrote it down and should) was always to garuntee users from qoto on other services.

I can see that maybe a revision is in order -- as the instance priority imo should be to have active user accounts and no zombie ones. So -- if a person is deserving of using any of the other services (and Discourse should be fully open to new signups if we want it to be useful for new project ideas) this could be verified upon an application, with reference to the applicant other online presences.

@zleap

@zleap

I would suggest you could request a subforum from Freemo, who can create of for your project -- and then you can invite people to join Discourse and use it.

The Projects area is here : discourse.qoto.org/c/PROJ/5

If they like to join us here in the instance, the normal admission requirements apply, they can go to the front door and fiil in a request.

@freemo

@globcoco
The Atlantic articles are always extensive, deep, and take a dedicated effort, but are so rich.

@DavidBlue

@globcoco I can send you an invite to join Qoto if you like, via DM -- this is a good instance, and has big toot allowance. Plus some other perks.

You can be my guest and we can talk a storm! Great for the Local feed indeed.

@globcoco

Thanks for the link, will open a Tab (another one, maybe 70 open at a time here; for reference, etc).

True that it's difficult to manage, to omuch info, so we need to select and get down into one thing. Done? what next ? 😃

Would be ideal to complete one project a day - a new blog, or an important new issue discussion we push forward. I try to do that, plus I also have lots of pen pal letters from all over the world (another subject we can talk later if you are interested).

Have a great day!
