This is a big problem for Mastodon.

Canadian journalist Erica Ifill just had her mastodon.online account suspended without explanation. She's been sharing stuff critical of Mastodon re: intersectional issues.

I get the decentralized structure and idea that each server has its own rules. But this Reddit-style moderation, where moderators with god-complexes make mysterious and arbitrary decisions, is going to cause people migrating to Mastodon to flee in droves.

At some point I'm going to have to go hunt down whatever your most recent build is to test. I've actually got a relatively large PDF file to manipulate and the font selector looks lovely.

if you are running into an issue following somebody being stuck in "request sent" and their account normally doesn't screen their follows (or their server is not silencing yours). go to the web page and cancel the request before trying again. theree seems to be a bug either on 3.5.3 or its interaction with mobile clients #feditips

I am considering adding the following phrasing to QOTO's ToC.. Before I do I'd like some feedback from the community

We did federate with them when they existed, but it was at the explicit request of our LGBTQ community and for their safety, it is important to know why.

Many of the LGBTQ were monitoring accounts there for the purpose of warning their community of calls to violence and doxxing. Other options (like signing up directly on the server) for them would have put them at more risk so they were here with the purpose of safely monitoring while keeping their ip and other information private.

In fact the subscription feature we now have was specifically added to their server for their benefit, so they could follow those accounts without being identified as a follower, further protecting them.

It was discussed on multiple occasions if we could find some alternative and potentially block the servers but for many reasons discussed we decided it was best to keep federation. In the end being able to see bad-actors, and therefore be informed was a far better choice than being blind to their violence and crippling the victims in some vain attempt to spite the bad actors.
