@gaymanifold wait are you seeing the avrxiv posts int he main feed without following too? It is supposed to be silenced.

@whynot I saw your report about the bot showing in your feed. That should **not** be the case. The bot is silenced by default and can only be seen if you subscribe or follow it. Is it possible you subscribed?

The nice thing about Twitter self immolating is that folks who would otherwise never even look at alternative platforms seem to be kicking the tires and trying to make things work on other sites. Really helps with the chicken/egg issue. If Twitter -> Mastodon works, no reason to think there isn’t hope for Facebook -> Diaspora (or similar). At that point, only thing left to do would be to make friends to connect with. Exciting days ahead!

@alecui There is no such thing as "made a keyoxide account"... keyoxide doesnt have accounts.

But that aside.. my best guess is that you didnt upload a new copy of your key after adding the proofs.

@dave

While there are a handful of extremist instances that block qoto its true, we have onne of the lowest insularity rates of most servers last I checked. As in we have one of the biggest reaches and federation footprints out there.

One of the reasons we can have this conversation is largely because our footprint is as large as it is we see many single-user images (we have crawlers that go out and find them and federate).

I agree its stupid and wrong that server instances will often block single useer instances, but sadly its just the truth of the matter.

The bigger issues are the ones you didnt respond to.. 1) its very inefficient for the network and 2) they have much smaller federation footprints due to the nature of how federation works

@dave

Personal servers are a bad idea... they arent efficient when it comes to federations, your voice doesnt go very far because of how federation works (you wontt show in very many federated feeds), and a great many servers will block you on sight as they do many of the one-person instances.

Better off just picking a server that is well funded enough to have tthe processing power to handle it. QOTO has been running perfectly fine witth plenty of resources to spare despite getting a decent portion of the influx.

@klyons The fate of the english language rests in the balance! This is no small thing

@Hyolobrika

Free speech means that unpopular opinions will be tolerated. It does not, and really never has, meant that you can say anything at any time without restriction.

@seachdamh

@seachdamh It might help if you add a pull request where you remove qoto and then link the issue int he description. that way they just press a button to do it.

@freemo I opened ticket behind qoto.org to remove it from blacklist at github.com/hachyderm/hack/issu (don't know if it will work, but mayby will) In case of questions it will be good sth more involved with server look at it.

@BLACKandSTEMGlobal It is great to meet you! Hope you enjoy it here. Hit me up to chat anytime.

@sspadt See this is tricky one.. I didnt like pre-must twitter, I dont like post-must twittter... I hope/suspect post-musk twitter will be marginally better than pre-musk twitter, but I really dont know... **however^^ if the measure is simple "the quality of the information on twitter" Then I'd have to say it would go down from musks proposed changes not up (even though I do feel he would marginally improve some other aspects).

@alexgranford

Onnly reason I always used full towers is because I always had like 8 drives :)

These days its because I usually have 4 water cooled GPUs which i use for a lot of work I do.

@ajdinmasic

@MariusSanduNZ Actually my name is Jeff, not Mastodon. But you are welcome :)
