QOTO is a stem instance int he sense that we require people who join be either STEM professionals or at least enthusiasts. So if that is a fitting description then your friend is welcome.

That said we do not require the topics discussed here be only STEM.. We are a general instance in the sense that you can talk about almost anything you want here.

Naturally being a bunch of nerds many of the topics you list are very common topics here.

They are unnlikely to get merged into mainstream mastodon. Many of the features were proposed and rejected by the maintainer of vanilla which is why we ultimately forked our own.

@TBbrigden Actually I am the founder of this server and I am actually working on TB (and other diseases) right now. We work with TB cultures in our lab too.

@mucida The current model can support twitter level use cases just fine. The key is making sure you use servers that have available resources annd not everyone piling onto one server. QOTO has had no trouble operating with the influx.

@MilesCranmer Why in the wqorld would my server be on the red side... our user base leans blue more than red, and we are one of few instances that doesnt take sides in general.

@magicaltrout We do have ways you can donate, and i can set you up with some of them. But we are very well funded from my own pocket and ive invested enough in the QOTO bank account to ensure we operate for years.

Holy hell the twitter exodus is **still** accelerating. The influx of new users is up about 33% from yesterday, our biggest day so far. We are now seeing over 1,300 new users every day on QOTO!
