Another math joke to show off #QOTO 's math rendering. Feel free to share your own jokes!
Remember Sex is fun, its the law!
Let \(f(a) = \sqrt[n]{e^x}\)
\[
\lim_{t\rightarrow\infty} f(a) - \frac{i}{f(t)} = \frac{d}{dx} f(u) \\
\lim_{t\rightarrow\infty} f(a) - \frac{i}{\infty} = \frac{d}{dx} f(u) \\
\lim_{t\rightarrow\infty} f(a) - 0 = \frac{d}{dx} f(u)
\]
Then
\[
\sqrt[n]{e^x} = \frac{d}{dx} f(u) \\
(\sqrt[n]{e^x})^n = \frac{d}{dx} f(u)^n \\
e^x = \frac{d}{dx} f(u)^n \\
\int e^x = f(u)^n
\]

The Math rendering on #QOTO works again (might need to reload your browser and give it a second to catch up the first time).
Here is a little Latex joke to kick it off.
Expand \((a+b)^n\):
\[
(a + b)^n\\
(a\ + \ b)^n\\
(a\quad + \quad b)^n\\
(a\qquad + \qquad b)^n\\
\]

Lists in mastodon were completely useless until we added the new features to QOTO for subscribing to remote instances local timelines and other subscriptions. There is a certain satisfaction in making a useless feature useful. It felt like wasted space before.
If you can't tell I'm super happy and excited about all the new features we added. So much fun getting to use them and knowing we are the only english speaking instance to have these features :)
I wanted to kick off the #QotoJournal hashtag by sharing a free open-source book I started writing some time ago...
I started writing a book in an attempt to help explain how to do circuit analysis by hand. Originally it was going to include both time-domain analysis as well as frequency-domain analysis. The book is incomplete and I never got to cover the time-domain but has several complete examples showing frequency-domain analysis on many common circuits. Iโve gotten some compliments over the years, particularly from HAM radio operators, on how useful the book has been to them. Iโd like to share here what I have so far in case anyone might find it useful.
As a side note if anyone would like to revive the project and work with me on expanding and completing the book it would be most welcome. Please feel free to contact me. In the meantime here is the compiled book in its current form. I donโt currently have the latex source code published anywhere but if there is any interest I will happily publish it and open-source it on github.
Here is a direct link to the book: https://discourse.qoto.org/uploads/short-url/tFY6qFBUnmFFVdnBErQ8mJdZuBF.pdf
You can also view the book as a feed in my blog here: http://jeffreyfreeman.me/frequency-domain-circuit-analysis-tutorial/
If you wish to comment or discuss it there is a discourse post for it here: https://discourse.qoto.org/t/frequency-domain-circuit-analysis-tutorial/41

Should we add the color-coded server indicator from the #InstanceTicker themes into the #QOTO default theme (keeping everything else as-is)?
We recently significantly expanded the federation relays for which #QOTO is a member of. This will significantly increase the volume of our federated feed and as such improve results when using our Domain Subscription feature to subscribe to another instance's local timeline as well as account and keyword subscriptions.
We are currently a member of 14 different #fediverse Relays.
That seems like an awfully selfish decision to me. You would let a bunch of people die just so you cant be called a murderer :)
The trolley problem
A runaway trolley is heading down the tracks toward five workers who will all be killed if the trolley proceeds on its present course. Adam is standing next to a large switch that can divert the trolley onto a different track. The only way to save the lives of the five workers is to divert the trolley onto another track that only has one worker on it. If Adam diverts the trolley onto the other track, this one worker will die, but the other five workers will be saved.
Should Adam flip the switch, killing the one worker but saving the other five? Vote for your answer.
Our new-users-per-day count has been elevated for several days now. All these upgrades might be getting us some attention.
Either way though I added these new features for me, for us. I am loving them, especially being able to subscribe to remote instances local timelines!

Good morning everyone.
Good to see all the new #QOTO features I implemented yesterday didn't crash and burn the server overnight :)

Fascinating. I was familiar the number of bounces of sliding blocks can be made to represent the digits of #pi, but this adds another twist.
say hello to the final iteration of the new banner found at https://megadon.net
Almost time for bed, super proud of all the cool new features #QOTO has now. If i have time might work on one or two new features in a few more days after we see how this goes.
I'm curious, is anyone here using the new #QOTO bookmark feature to bookmark toots?

One last notice for the day. The #QOTO search index is being rebuilt. So while you can still do full text searches here it will be a day or two until you get full search results. We normally keep toots from he entire fediverse back to the beginning of time but you cant access it until the index completes. Please be patient and if a search doesn't give you enough results try back later and it should work.
This also may reduce the number of results you see in remote timelines you are subscribed to locally. As the index completes then these remote timelines should fill up more quickly and completely I believe. For now everything works just fine.
Let us know if anyone has problems or questions.
