Too many Bad News, can't stand looking at my fave news sites lately.

Time for some nice Cat pictures? This one just found on FB, by Ines Dias from Portugal. Great looking kitty.

8 hours later and the mushroom nut soup is done!

Made with 5 types of mushrooms (Maitake, Crimini, pioppino, Lion's Mane, and White Cap), 2 kinds of nuts (Walnut and pistachio), plus some bulgar wheat, couscous, and about half a dozen imported spices.

So I made the wagyu beef and figured I had to eat it while it was still fresh and had no one to eat it with... Plus it was soooo good... I made a mistake though, I ate two and now im sick-full and never eating again! Worth it though they were AMAZING.

@freemo That makes a certain amount of sense in my warped mind. Weird crap happing all over the world, people start to panic, they turn to "mainstream" systems that everyone is familiar with to try to keep up with everything.

I'm a nerd girl... still skimming under the surface of the net with irc and gopher and even I didn't know about the fediverse until very recently.

Now that the initial wave of panic has passed, the weird is a little more normal, boredom is settling in, people are exploring again.

I like the ice berg image of the internet. The tip being what everyone thinks of as the internet, the deep web being all the systems and routes and servers that make the internet run, the darknet being places you find on Tor...

With that imagery, the "known internet" really is like surfing. The deep web is like scuba diving, and the darknet means learning to pilot a sub. It seems to me like the fediverse is like snorkeling.

Funny thing about the fediverse... I really only found it because of twitter. Shelter in place, so much shut down, I started digging around in old info files on old tech and found my info for my old twitter that I hadn't used in 8 freaking years LOL.

I logged in, tooled around because I found a decent opera sidebar extension for it, then I thought... there's gotta be something better than this... right?

Thank you fediverse for existing.

So, I just discovered the fediverse in general in the last couple days. Like any time I find something new to me and interesting, I dove in head first with an obsessive need to learn more. I was like Hermione in a new library.

Here are 2 things I wish were different tho. First I wish all the instances used the same software, namely whatever qoto is using. In my exploring I have tried out a few instances and this one by far seems the best to me for its customizeability with things like blocking entire domains (I personally think this is better than an instance blocking another instance) and the lovely huge character limits.

Second thing I wish was different is the toot button. Would it be so bad for it to just say "Send" instead of Toot? I get where it comes from, but I've seen some people take mastodon less seriously because of it being called tooting, it kinda gives off a hipster vibe of trying too hard to not be "tweet," and it sometimes just makes me think of stupid fart jokes lol.

Other than those two points, I am loving the fediverse and my mind is blown with how explosively active the Federated timeline is.

@design_RG Remember when I thought our timeline went dead.. I've been scratching my head for a week now wondering how you dont see it and why the timeline was so dead... Turns out I've had "media only" selected on the timeline and didnt realize it.. lololol

yes I am the system admin :)

Woke up to a finished stew in the slow cooker.. yay stew for breakfast.

ok I definately got too much food for one person... luckily I can freeze it all....

Teh barbacoa is done, that will likely make like 6 burritos.. I put in a full pot of stew in the slow cooker which should be ready by tomorrow.. Then I have a huge amount of various nuts adn mushrooms I am making into a big pot of mushroom soup... I still need to make teh wagyu steaks too, I better eat those tomorrow. thats not even counting all the pasta and sauce I have or any of the other stuff... Man I'm eating good this month!

All this quarintining has me cooking up a storm. Making some Barbacoa in the slow cooker for burritos.

In case you are curious this is what eggs look like when they are still developing inside a chicken.

Posted to twitter, hopefully it is OK to share here, but doing so to help spread the word. Lets hope this sort of innovation carries on way after this crisis is over, so we always innovate and always have access to ventilators regardless of geographical location.
