A relevant post, in my opinion.

I believe the choice of ignoring, Muting and Blocking content and Users, remote instances is BEST dealt with by the User him/herself.

Mastodon HAS this built in, ANY user can do it. I consider it one of the great features of , as compared to corporate networks (TW, FB and others).

I am glad to know that -- as that should be at the user's discretion. Otherwise it's Censorship.

To be absolutely clear -- I personally BLOCK all content from gab and affiliates, a personal user decision which is open to ANY fediverse user (depending on their platform, slightly different ways to implement).

I am not a flag bearer for free speech, considering an inherent human right, but the limiting of user options in the clients is wrong headed, imo. You opinion is probably different, but no offense meant or taken.

We could just ignore these fringes, blocking individual users or instances as needed in case of conflict.

Says me, a free thinker, opinionated and via my blog.

worthy theme and mention.

Why are people scared of the riots and looting?

The flu kills way more people every year.

100% of american cops who have managed to keep their job for more than a year are bad people, there I said it.

Any cop who is a good person would have arrested dozen of their fellow cops by now for abuse of their position and likely gotten themselves fired long before a year had passed.

So when people say "not all cops are bad" my first instinct is, unless you were just hired a week ago, bullshit, your as bad as the rest of them.

As I've revealed in my last Patreon post, I've been working on adding end-to-end encryption APIs into Mastodon as an upgrade to the direct message system.

Any and all technical details available at the moment are here:

Today I spent about 8 hours cleaning. There are atleast 20 bags of 33 gallon trashbags out for trash and a mountain of boxes. Also managed to get my very expensive Kenwood TS-990 shipped out for repair. I also cleaned up the Chemistry lab and Electrical Engineering Lab.. Very excited to see that productivity kick in again!

@sean While I dont personally promote blocking at the instance level I do respect instances that do.

I think if you are blocking instances GAB obviously makes a lot of sense with even a 15 second look at their timeline.

The reason I dont personally block any instances is largely because of what happened when we were tried to decide this during the birth of Isolate GAB movement, we almost did block GAB and others.

Our LGBT community at the time came together an en masse begged me not to, which I found odd at first but their reasoning made a lot of sense. They want a way to be able to monitor high-risk GAB accounts for threats against their community. Mostly doxxing of members in their community which the disseminate among each other. Obviously they didnt feel safe simply opening a GAB account because that would expose their personal details to GAB and they didnt want that.

Later we even implemented the subscription feature for a similar reason. This way our users can subscribe to a GAB user without actually following them as a further mechanism of safety.

It really saddens me though that choice I made specifically in the interest of protecting our LGBT community from harm has brought us some hate from the community and even blocks ourselves.

To me that is a price I am happy to pay to protect those individuals though.

Overall it has made me think about fediblocks in a very different way too.

If QOTO implements a Text based chat room which options would be the most appealing to you (all are federated in a sense).

Which sort of services should we add to the array of QOTO services (we will pick open-source and federated solutions where possible):

I just found a spider in my house and we had a nice long conversation. Went something like this: "

Me: Aww hey little guy, how ya doin?

spider:: ::wiggle wiggle::

me: Yea me too, one of those days. You a little lost, not too many bugs around here for ya.

spider: ::jostles his fangs::

me: yea I thought so, let me try to give you a hand. ::lifts up the container he is on to bring it outside::

spider ::jumps on me then immediately onto the carpet::

me: Woa, its ok, im sorry. I'm sure you know what your doin! Feel free to hang out in a corner somewhere, my home is your home! Let me know if you need anything ::walks away::

spider ::wiggles butt in approval and walks away::
