May I suggest to people that if somebody replies to you, even if they're telling you something you already knew, or otherwise not actually contributing anything useful, you still like, favourite, up-vote or otherwise express your thanks for that reply. They have no way of knowing what you do, and even if what they're saying doesn't quite line up given the context of the original post, they're still trying to participate in your own conversation.
Am I the only one who ever thinks about countering g-forces by allowing a pilot to be submersed in liquid instead with neutral boyancy. This would completely eliminate passing out from g-forces at any acceleration factor.
Though of course it would be complicated so I understand why it isnt done. You would need a complicated system to maintain pressure in the tank so it wont fluctuate quickly. But since g-forces are usually transient if done correctly decompression might not be a big issue
I feel like it would be nice to have an always-on VO-IP conference channel of some sort where anyone who is actively on QOTO (and those who arent) can hang out in, to supplement the text medium.
That way when someone gets all pissy and mad at someone they can just pop on and handle itface to face, or atleast, voice-to-voice.. I feel like it might create an interesting and improved dynamic maybe.
You are right you should never have to rely on weapons, they should, ideally, be a sport and never be needed.
But sadely often you do, and when you do need them you will wish you had them, just as many in europe wish they had them when WWII came.
So sadly, im glad I do, and one day again you will wish you had them too if history is any indication.

> the fact that someone provided a excellent PR that basically added the ability to configure toot size in the configuration file. It was rejected, and glitch was born.
Yes, that is a True Fact -- I have screenshots of the topic, even. [saved and planned to use in a critical article as you can imagine]
Only correction to add -- the PR in case (editor note : code ready for implementation, not a vague suggestion), the proposer of that was LambadaLambda.

Eugen's style has turned many collaborators away over the years. I have notes and bookmarks of Medium posts by someone like me -- who couldnt write Code, but could fill a much needed position.
As in -- writing all kinds of user fronting documentation. She left, after repeated put downs and no acknowledgement of her contributions. Never got a mention in the Credits.
Really well written and explains a lot. It opened my mind, and I plan to refer to it as I explain my own decisions and personal campaign for Better Alternatives.

I am clearly a little vain considering it makes me smile that the VC who funded the hyperloop project (and air b&B, uber, slack, postmates, etc) and is often seen along old pictures of Obama at the white house follows me on twitter...
He has actually funded some of my stuff in the past which is kinda cool.
> When I saw the expression in that officer’s face and that three other officers were around him standing by as if this was just business as usual, I thought of Hannah Arendt and her phrase “the banality of evil.” What Arendt found most horrific was that ordinary people were able to commit horrible killings, and at the end of the day, they went back home to their nice homes and their nice families, and the next day they went back and killed again.
Its nice that they are arresting the police officers involved in the Murder of George Floyd and all. But are we going to see the officer who drove through a crowd and ran over protestors? Or how about the officers that shot rubber bullets at a small child sitting on his front door step after curfew.
Are we going to see arrests for the countless other officers abusing and using violence against the people when it is uncalled for? Is there going to be a change in laws so we see these officers arrested now and into the future?
Or is the far more likely outcome going to be that they arrest just 3 or 4 officers to get everyone to shut up and then it is back to business as usual?
@penny Yes I think thats a good definition. Can you also, therefore, see why your own responses (particularly those earlier in the thread) also would be tone deaf to my own perceptions and the people who feel as I do?
There are a lot of people trying to say what I am saying.. many have no racist tendencies of any kind, and are often being called racist for even daring to include general police brutality in the issue (as it effects all races)..
The problem as I see it, many of the ALM people arent listening the the BLM side of things. Which is why it is important for me to highlight when i talk about this that blacks are absolutely suffering 2x - 3x more.. but at the same time the BLM side arent really listening to the ALM side who are claiming we have all been abused by cops and there is a sense of unity in that because we have a common enemy and that message is important to spread too...
Instead all I see is ALM hating BLM and BLM hating ALM and frankly their both tone deaf to the other and from my perspective at their core (when you remove the bad apples using those terms) they are both positive messages that should be side-by-side against a common problem.
Leonie, who is the admin of a nice instance I appreciate -- https://Koyu.space/about/
...has posted a nice idea this morning, screenshot added here.
That we should have a new hashtag, #InstanceAdminDay :
* to offer thank yous and appreciation for the work, expense and effort they pour in to keep these services running.
* many times covering the costs out of their pockets.
* and mostly not shown the recognition for all of that
I think it's a GREAT idea, and fully support that. I wrote a Long post here yesterday, showing similar appreciation for the unique openness shown by our local Qoto.org admin and founder.
I also posted a nice LP (my usual is Long Form, as you know), just a few minutes ago, showing appreciation for Nolan Lawson's work, as both a fedi admin and author of an outstanding client.
As an active and opinionated #FediReporter who was dismayed by recent events, including the attacks on Leonie's personal reputation by despicable people, I am joining this.
Let's make it happen. Show some love and kudos to your favourite admins and site staff.
Thanks for all your work, Leonie.
Koyu.space is a wonderful instance, I recommend it to any discerning user looking for a nice Glitch-Social instance.

With everyone having tunnel vision about just the Black Victims of police brutality, I think its important we highlight some of the non-black victims.
To be clear Blacks are disproportionately targeted and that does need to be part of the conversation. But this isnt a black issue, 75% of unarmed victims killed by police are white. This is an issue that effects us all of any race. Here are some of those victims, unarmed whites murdered by police.
Rhogena Nicholas - Killed by gunshot
Dennis Tuttle - Killed by gunshot
Jason Lewis - Killed by beating
Virgil Reynolds - Killed by gunshot

Francis Calonge - Killed by gunshot
And many thousands more
A recent conversation at an Denny's with some friends:
Waitor: "Sir, what can I get you?"
Me: "Do you have any babies, preferably grilled?"
Waitor: "What?"
Me: "You know, like veal, or baby shrimp, anything like that? Preferably something very young, the younger the better?"
Waitor: "Umm, I need to go ask."
Me: "Ya know what, never mind, let me just get some scrambled eggs, I think that's my safest bet!"
An older photo of mine I took of the moon with my semi-professional equipment
Waitor: What can I get you?
Me: I will take some chicken periods, well cooked with some bovine lactation, some of it in a cup, fresh, and the rest with a bacterial infestation and old enough to solidify, you can put that on the chicken periods. As a side I'll take the head of a pig boiled with spicies until it produces a slurry, then sliced and fried, thanks.
Waitor: we are out of milk
Me: ok then the fresh squeezed liquid from the reproductive organs of a tree, any one will do.
Waitor: We have orange juice
me: that is fine, thank you.
Waitor: Wonderful, thats one omlet with cheese, a side of scrapple, and a glass of orange juice. Coming right up!
