@mistakenotmy I know. Once talk groups get popular, you first get spam, then ads. Everything since usenet has followed this for me. However, it might still be good if there is no money involved. Google+ was spam-free but with nobody. :)
@engineeringdad I have hope for my grandchildren. Look at this guy, figuring things out. He doesn't have a phone stuck to his head.
@engineeringdad I'm an engineering dad, and when I asked my kids if they wanted to learn how to assemble computers, they said "Unlike you, Dad, we were born with electricity."
Fusion still decades away.

Drat, there goes my hope to see it before I kick the can. Totally new physics, they are all happy, when they should be saying - f*ck!
As I have said, we have a severe scaling problem and now we have new physics. :) New physics, like new engineering is not a good thing for commercial power.
The question of masks
https://www.cbc.ca/news/canada/toronto/ontario-dr-kieran-moore-announcement-1.6650571
I would put forward a hypothesis that masks will not change any statistics with a general population. China is a fine example. Studies have been done with an uncovered cough, but who does that? Covid comes in through the eyes, so that masking would have to reduce air viruses to zero.
In the mass wearing of masks, people wear them for hours and talk loudly to compensate. The electric charge on the mask fibers is instantly killed by moisture.
Masks work for a short duration in an OR, where everybody talks quietly. I would propose physics tests on particles, and would further check the effectiveness of wrap-around glasses for a significant effect on large numbers.
I am not arguing this, as it seems to be a matter of faith.
@trinsec Ah, fond memories of 6C.
@trinsec Ha, that's hilarious because the anomaly maps shows it warmer than usual. My kids visited California (from Canada) during the coldest weather in years. The locals were in parkas and my kids sat in shorts by a beach which was deserted.
Europe is warm
#weather #climate
There are no cold air blobs coming directly down on Europe. They are coming down the Atlantic, and colliding with warm plumes from the Gulf area. This looks to be a stable pattern for a month, as the Pacific plumes are just dumping on North America. The Pacific plumes generally scoop out the Arctic air like ice cream.
Old person health tips
I have found that nature conspires against you and wants to turn you into a walking fungus. The best help is tea tree oil. Scratch-massage your scalp. I found horrible bumps and these are colonies of yeast trying to eat you. They live under a biodome that protects them. Give them a light scratch and put on Polysporin triple for the pain. Continue with a daily massage of tea oil, and kill the bumps. Also toe fungus.
Speaking of eyes, if you are old and have dry eyes and need eye drops, try this, which is legit Scientific Method. Get a cheap red led flashlight from ammie, and shine it in your eyes in the morning for 3 minutes. The mitochondria love it and it takes 10 years off your eyes. Lots of articles on that. Then I go to my blue light because there's no sunlight in Canada right now. I've stopped using eye drops and I read constantly on my ebook.
@gpowerf An interesting article. But in the US they sue everybody and their dog.
@EviVin Those are clay beads, and I grow microgreens. You buy the seeds and they are mixed greens. Right now I am using the left-over seeds from the garden - peas, lettuce, spinach, etc. You only let them grow a couple of inches, then I trim them off. Then I run fingers through the beads, and gather the roots for the compost. And I start again.
@marathon0 He overgrows to feed the pipeline, to make sure. I object to the 'word inflation' of calling it criminal. I buy overripe bananas for cake, and c-grade apples at the orchard. I trim off the cauliflower spots, but cauliflower is the worst for keeping fresh. Far better to use cabbage.
@tonic Ha, I'm old, and retired and I need to write a paper like a hole in the head.
@freemo At the lab, have a sniff of lab 'pure ethanol'. I remember that from working at a big high-pressure rock lab in my younger days. A sniff from a half meter away made me yell 'Yowsa!', and it over stamped all damage from playing with liquid mercury. :)
@johnnylogic Good God! qoto is being blocked?
@tonic I always went with 3 books on the topic and randomly chose paragraphs. With AI, you would have to properly choose the seeds.
Descended from Unix freaks, I evolved to Linux. Some people might consider me old at 60+, but I'm suing the world to get my age down to 30.
I have a blog https://ontario-geofish.blogspot.com/
and it is read by 8 people. My formal education is in an extinct branch of science called geophysics. Since there was no money in it, I went to engineering. I've done tunnels, radwaste thingies, etc.
