@PiedraFiera
I agree, US officials didn't seem to understand the implications - right at the start, Putin said "we understand where their weaknesses are", in economic terms. The Russians and Chinese had started to prepare their economies against sanction pressure before the start of the Special Operation. That's what BRIC is all about.

@trinsec
I thought it was just your small hand(s). 😁

How many cooperative Mastodon instances are there? Cooperative meaning democratically owned, governed, managed, moderated. Is there a list somewhere? Is social.coop the only one? Please boost.

¿Cuántas instancias de Mastodon cooperativas hay? ¿Cuáles son?

Well, that looked like a strong current – you obviously are a seal! 😆

I've been making pens! Here are three I turned on my mini lathe recently, the woods are (from left to right)

Bolivian Rosewood
Cocobolo
Macassar Ebony
(Buckeye burl in the works, it's gorgeous)

Each one is made with different embellishments, slightly different widths and grips, and an increasingly refined process as I make more!

The refills are by Cross, and if I can find kits for fountain pens, I'll definitely want to try my hand at making those too! These are really hefty and dense and have great balance to them, so I'm pretty happy with how they all turned out!

@freemo
Amazing! Pretty strong current, is that the reason they can stay stationary, bc the current forces the water over their gills?

After looking at this data

ourworldindata.org/travel-carb

one wouldn't feel bad traveling short-haul flights in comparison to land based options.

There are three factors that go into the carbon footprint while traveling:

- carbon emissions per kilometer
- distance between locations
- passenger count of vehicle

And then there are personal factors like:

- cost of travel
- duration of travel

Considering that on average air travel is always the shortest option among the rest, the hypothesis would be that carbon emissions on that factor would be equivalent.

Let $a, b$ be vehicles. Let $c_a, c_b$ be carbon emissions in g/km with $c_a > c_b$ and $d_a$ be the distance bound to vehicle $a$. Then

$$d_b = \left(\frac{c_a}{c_b} - 1\right)d_a$$

is the allowance of kilometers for the vehicle bound to $q$ before a carbon equivalence is made.

Another factor is the capacity amount of passengers, let's say that the average short-haul flight has 180 passengers, the average long distance bus 60 passengers and the average long distance train 2550 passengers (30 cars times 85 passengers). This quickly solidifies that traveling by train is the cleanest option. Assuming each vehicle is fully booked.

Let's extend the upper equation with passenger count denote with $p$. Then

$$d_b = \frac{c_a}{c_b}\frac{p_b}{p_a}d_a$$

is vehicle's $b$ allowance in kilometers before equivalence.

In conclusion, just because it seems like a vehicle is carbon emission wise worst off on a g/km basis, does not have to mean that case holds up for the complete trip.

What was the US doing with all these labs in Ukraine? The Russian military has a take on it. It's not outlandish and bears some thought for serious people.

If accurate, this is very concerning. in Ukraine was it bioweapon research? The Russian MoD certainly thinks so.
