I remember when I learned that earthquakes generated sound, I was fascinated. When I realized earthquakes ARE sound, mind blown.🤯

@skanman Individually, try to be as healthy as possible, eat less process food and more probiotics, face masks in poorly ventilated spaces. Collectively I don't know. I just think we are more susceptible that we think we are.

Idea 💡. For us changes in temperature due to climate change are somewhat manageable for now. But for microorganisms could be a catastrophic change. Thus maybe the natural predators of viruses became extinct or are close to be extinct. Without the natural predators, the overall viral load increase. More viruses, more diseases.

And yes, I don't change most of the default settings. So I use gnome and it looks prettier than KDE by default, although I see people configured their KDE looks much better.

About five years ago, I configured KDE and other things too. But it also locks me into my current setup, which, if they stop maintaining or make breaking changes (give my tray icons bar back, gnome), or the settings I relied on are removed, I will be doomed. (And I will never upgrade to windows 11 because I can't put the taskbar vertically on the left of my screen unless MS gives me a 16:10 monitor to compensate for the space usage).

One event isn’t a trend. Two aren’t either. Once you get to three, you can start being curious… but get some math to back up your argument if you start claiming a trend.

@skanman

Thanks. I had similar sobering thoughts as well while reading this article.
There is also a book by E. Fromm on the same topic he wrote in the distant 1941:

Why does everything have to be so weird?

is normally seen as a privilege and not a reason to be afraid. But many people did fear freedom, Ms. Müller commented on the developments in Eastern Europe. The initial euphoria of finally being set free had soon worn off and evaporated, replaced in many places by fear. , she said, “is as complicated as freedom.” Adding momentum, organized fear is at the heart of all authoritarian regimes, which try to literally raise people to be afraid.”

Why did the astronauts who landed on the moon, not do more acrobatics?

Gratuitous tech ranting.

I'm so tired of libraries, packages, sdks, frameworks, and open-sourced all-in-one miracle platforms.

I get it, try and save time. But you end up with a birds nest of code that most of which is unnecessary. This results in either giant server resource usage, or it's just plain slow.

Modern tools, and languages exist that make large application development easier too. I think a lot of developers get into a comfort zone with their dev cycle and it seems to daunting to get out.

Our hardware evolves, our environments evolve, why's it so hard project management, and clients to evolve?

If you know nothing about cars, you ask a mechanic to investigate, explain, and give you options. You don't just march up to a mechanic and say, "I don't like my engine, I read about this idiot that installed a turbine in his car, I want one". This happens when you separate front end and back end also. The project designers don't know the devs are capable of automating much of the application. They just sketch out an app with as many buttons as they see on other apps.

Let's move on to the security issue. Hackers develop tools for what? Commonly used code. If you're using what everyone else is using, you're an easy target.

If you're planning to build an application, consult with developers first. Give them lots of time to do it right. Be understanding. Be patient. Don't be afraid to trash an old app and start over. Your developers will deliver gold.

How emotional are you on a general basis?

The last couple of days I've been experimenting with the modes on my phone. The "do not disturb" while sleeping is fine but my choices for the "driving" mode might need some work. I thought the reading out of whatsapp messages might be useful, particularly on the way in and out of said place.

Turns out I have a new found additional understanding of what VI people with screen readers are going through. When you've had the nice lady in your phone read "upward pointing finger with palm facing outwards" ten times because one of your colleagues likes to emphasise his messages with a follow-up screen full of ☝️ you begin to feel a fraction of their pain.

I have the option of turning off the reader. Not everyone does. I'll be thinking about that.

I dabble in poetry

An ode to Venus

A fist full of rage
And a fist full of peace
Yet I claw through the sage
With neither of these
Should I open one hand
keep the other clenched
A hand full of sand
And the other is drenched
I swim through the sea
With neither of these
I'd drown where I reach
The mangrove trees
A feast for the fish
A crime for The Times
A deal with the devil
In the angel's eyes
I'll climb that rock
With neither of these
I'll see you at the top
Through the fresh pine trees
So where should I be?
With hands like these
In the sixteenth room
Of the Louve hath me

<rant> I did some searching, it appears federated architectures will be the future of most platforms. What I'm disappointed in, is where are the federated platforms that will change the world? Not just for sharing things, but actually do jobs. Where's my federated banks? (Not currencies, banks that accept all currencies), where's my federated schools? Where's my federated VPNs? Where's my federated search engines? Let's connect the offline to the online for a moment. Where's my federated logistics? (Pretty easy actually). Where's my federated power plants? Let the governments continue to govern.. but end their personal side cash machines. </rant>
