Why is permafrost critical to human rights? When permafrost thaws, it can disrupt travel, food systems, and infrastructure. Trails (pictured below) and lakes used for generations can experience sudden flooding or drainage. Permafrost thaw will change almost every aspect of northern living and many communities will need to relocate to thaw stable ground. With permafrost thaw, northerns lose independence, culture, and security. Permafrost & northerners deserve the right to be cold.

Another amazing encounter with an otter, from a couple of years ago on Mull.

I had been watching two otters fishing in the loch for over an hour when one of them caught something large, and started swimming towards the shore.

I got into a location to watch from, and saw her splash through the waves and out on to the shore with a huge lobster in her jaws.

She spent half an hour eating almost all of it.

I’m thinking about all the other #WorkhorseWetlands people take for granted in our urban and rural areas. They are working hard to purify #water and prevent #floods, but do we adequately value them?

Today, why not tidy up your local #wetland? Stop 🛑 that litter from becoming #Microplastics or harming #waterfowl. Bring some garbage bags and some friends and do a clean-up. It will feel amazing to actually make something better with your own hands.
