@Pat dude, this is Michigan, not the United States as a whole. besides, it looks like the candidates didn't have the signatures to be formally considered as candidates in the election... even if they personally didn't write fake signatures, they are campaign leaders so they're responsible

@neauoire cool. I wonder though, I didn't learn much programming from people talking, but from reading. is there much advantage to having the lesson signed? maybe it's more engaging for some...

@johnabs I've 100% heard an informal proposal related to that before, but specifically for getting reviewers. Basically the idea was about finding a scheme to gather reviewers, keeping results under wraps so no one gets "scooped", and *I think* paying reviewers for their time or somehow crediting them. I'll link it if I find a record of it -- my notes are shit though, so don't hold your breath

If I could spend my working days helping to mitigate and adapt to the effects of climate change or helping people making more efficient use of natural resources, I would, but I don't know how to make a living doing that 😔

I gotta start citing "scheduling conflicts" when it's inconvenient for me to be places

@CodingItWrong@mastodon.technology only read the first couple sections, but good points. one thing though is the refactor step is described as rewriting both test and production code, but I think you might want to emphasize only changing one at a time. if you're changing both at the same time, then you're losing the guarantees of confirming to the interface described by your tests, so you no longer have a fixed point of comparison. refactoring should not change the interface by definition

why shouldn't I just buy a patch of land in the desert? it's not like I have to use it for anything

However, while performing a security audit of the DuckDuckGo Privacy Browser, security researcher Zach Edwards discovered that while the browser blocks Google and Facebook trackers, it allowed Microsoft trackers to continue running.

DuckDuckGo CEO and Founder Gabriel Weinberg confirmed that their browser intentionally allows Microsoft trackers third-party sites due to a search syndication agreement with Redmond.

I have made a weird musical instrument. It is some kind of electronic just intonation kalimba I guess? With stars?

@olamundo@red.niboe.info what's your worry? companies merge and acquire each other all the time
@lupyuen

@apLundell@octodon.social aww. did you hear? it's expected to be out of commission by the end of this year

@loke @lupyuen i was getting a bit of that, but definitely there's a thread of "this language is bad and you should feel bad for using it/liking it" that is pretty awful.

this guy consistently pronouncing patriot like "PAY-TREE-AWT" is giving me an aneurysm

it's been too long since I baked a cornbread. seasoned with chili powder, red pepper flakes, and oregano. 😋
it's a but saltier than i recall though. I think I used sea salt previously, but used more finely ground, iodized salt this time. I should convert this recipe to weight measurements...
