This is not about one man.

It's about the power dynamics of an entire country -- the government, the president, Congress, the CDC, the pharma companies, mainstream media -- all of them. They're all responsible for killing a million Americans.

When was the last time you heard somebody talk about this on mainstream media? Answer: never.

They're all responsible.

And as to the meaning of the word "socialist", if you ask ten people you'll get twelve different answers.

@stux

According to Wikipedia he has been in office since 2014. I thought that Turkey's presidents could only serve two 5-year terms.

So how can he be running again?

@mcnees

>'If someone comes at you on here with “actually, Nazis were socialists,” just block them and don’t look back. Do yourself this little kindness.'

Making a statement like that, is like to say that time is invariant.

For anyone who's confused, the Nazis were brutal fascists who hated people for who they are and killed millions of people because of that.

I'm a curious person. I enjoy learning things. If someone made a statement like that, I would inquire as to what they're thinking was, what they thought the meaning of those words meant. I don't think I would immediately make any judgment at all about them until I understood what they thought those words meant.

We all live in these isolated bubbles these days and the meanings of words have become so tortured (especially ideological labels) that there are a lot people out there who don't share a common understand of what many words mean. To make a judgment about somebody based solely on that one statement would be like judging somebody based on appearances.

It would be like assuming that a minute is same amount of time for all observers.

I'm curious Robert, what prompted this?

@TruthSandwich

“The only people who claim that the Nazis were socialists are modern-day Nazis.”

I think someone could ignorantly make that claim without being a Nazi.

@TruthSandwich

* - The term “reputable publisher” here means one that specializes exclusively or primarily in publishing dictionaries or other lexicographical reference titles and is not owned by some large multinational publisher.

@TruthSandwich

They were brutal fascists, but they called themselves “National Socialists”. About the only only thing they had in common with socialism was the requirement to subordinate personal interests to the state.

North Korea calls itself “Democratic Republic”.

I think trying to communicate anything to a general audience simply by using terms such as “capitalist” or “socialist” or “democracy” or “libertarian” is just about useless these days.

So many people have
adopted the technique of twisting the meaning of the language in order to try to gain some kind of political advantage rather than actually discuss the substantive aspects of issues to try to form opinions.

If you ever find yourself arguing about the meaning of
ideological labels just pick up a 20 or 30 year old dictionary from a reputable publisher.

I thought about sardonically using the hashtag on this one but decided not to.

The Pilgrims were illegal immigrants, but the Americans still used them as farm workers to pick corn.

= A statement that is logically or literally true (or partly true), but seems to imply something that isn’t true or is just plain weird. (for rhetoric, logic or propaganda studies… or just for fun)

Sure, if you use an electric mower.

1. The pandemic is not over.

2. What was the percentage before the pandemic started.

>"Why keep score? WWIII will be such a fair thing, nobody left behind."

I've been reading up on that topic. Nuclear war could actually be survivable by many people.

Those near ground zero of the targets would die and anyone who could not find shelter underground would succumb to the radiation from the fallout. Of those who go underground and are properly shielded and could stay underground for a couple weeks, they could survive. Although many of those would have shortened lives due to increased cancer rates.

There would be plenty of food for awhile because there would be so few people compared to all of the canned food and such at various locations in the distribution chain. That food could actually last for a decade or so until the survivors got organized and started growing food again.

It would be one of the worst catastrophes that humans had ever experienced, but fortunately (or unfortunately) the species would survive.

>"And, btw, "bad guys"? Anyone in the game not qualifying? So who do you mean by that?"

China, Russia, Belarus, Saudi Arabia, probably India and whoever else they can get to join their side.

Yeah, the US and other Western countries have gotten pretty bad, too. I guess it should be "worse guys".

@mur2501 @bonifartius @freemo

@TruthSandwich

That’s terrible what Russia did. Who told them they could do that?

>'Sure can't argue against that.'

Deceit has been used for hundreds of millions of years.

@stux

As a contrast. here's a promotional video that shows how bricks are made in the developed world. This video shows a factory in Australia where nearly all of the processes are automated with robotics.

I hear a lot of people complain about free market capitalism but that is what has brought us all this automation and eliminated the need for those horrible, inhumane jobs.

Pakistan with its long history of theocratic governance and entrenched corruption has nothing even closely resembling free market capitalism.

Unfortunately the way things are going it looks like India is going to side with the bad guys in WWIII.
