@farooqkz

Lots of Muslims believe that love is love, and they don't hate people for who they are.

Maybe you should consider changing your religious beliefs. Have you considered that?

@BobKerns @freemo @tonic

@farooqkz

Well, as I said, most people like it. I like not having to worry about reaching a character limit on my toots, and I like the variety it provides in content without having a bunch of different platforms to go to with different logins/passwords, etc. just for a different length of postings.

@freemo

>"eye of a shit storm"

That sounds kind of sexual to me. :ablobgrin:

Are you sure you can say that? It might hurt my feelings. 😂

Congratulations and welcome to the shit-storm @barefootstache .

Most people like the generous word limit. It automatically truncates and says "read more" if it's really long, so what's the problem?

If someone is writing a bunch of long posts and you don't want to read them, just skip over them and don't read them. You can always mute them if they never say anything you want to hear.

@freemo

@freemo

If you are looking at software solutions, here are some ideas:

- have two federated feeds, one lightly moderated (lightly defederated) and one unmoderated

- provide a way to add reasons/notes when a user blocks/mutes an account, the notes attach to the block so that the user can remember why they blocked (in case they revise their block criteria in the future) or attach the offending toot to the block with notes

- allow users to flag an account to watch rather than mute or block right away (for those cases when bad actors use Chinese water torture techniques, or when you want to give someone a chance before axing them)

- (admin tools) I don't know what's already available to an admin, but maybe a way for the admin to see how many users on the instance block a particular instance or account. If an instance gets 95% blocks from users, then maybe it's time to defed. from that instance

- as others have proposed, a list of suggested block lists by category that new users can choose from

@herid

I don't know, but when you come up with one let me know because I need a babyfood example to understand it myself.

(Apparently Einstein had to consult with one of his mathematician buddies to explain it to him so he could complete his work on General Relativity.)

@trinsec

Thank you.

That whole parallel structure where toots and profiles can be opened in the web or via another route is confusing to me. I'm sure there must be a good reason for why the software was written that way, but it's confusing from a user standpoint.

@admitsWrongIfProven

@trinsec

Okay. That's confusing. All I did was right-click on your name to open it in another browser tab, and it brought up the profile at:
qoto.org/@trinsec
(which doesn't have the 3-dot thingy)

The link, qoto.org/@trinsec, is what shows up when I hover the cursor over your name.

But when I just left-click on your name to bring it up under the current browser tab, it brings up the profile at:
qoto.org/web/accounts/19169
(which has the 3-dot thingy)

@admitsWrongIfProven

@trinsec

I found the slider on the home feed, but I can't find the 3-dots on profile pages.

@admitsWrongIfProven

@trinsec

How do you shut off boosted toots like that? (for the home timeline and especially for specific accounts)? I just stopped following someone the other day to get their boosted toots out my home timeline.

@admitsWrongIfProven

So, Amazon is playing the most irritating and noxious ads right now on their streaming platforms.

Why?

They are trying to drive people away from watching videos and get them to go shopping. (That's my take on it anyway.)

Well, it won't work. I'll go dig my DVD player out of the attic before I succumb to those tactics.

@admitsWrongIfProven

>"Or... just a glitch in the UI, where the buttons are always the same, not matter if they make sense."

Yeah, the fav feature should probably be turned off in those notices.

@admitsWrongIfProven

I don't know how well I know myself, but sometimes I know what I do.

@admitsWrongIfProven

I think when you click fav on the notice, it just favorites your own original toot, which of course, doesn't get noticed-back to you because you already know that you fav'ed your own toot.

@Romaq

The LP. Yeah, that's a great case study in social cooperation.

Actually, I'm not even really following the Masdo drama and have no idea what it's about. What I'm hearing doesn't make sense, but then again my brain can't make sense of most things that people do.
