Today's "fuck you" feature is the autoplay feature on youtube that automatically plays a video (that youtube chooses for you) at the end of the video you just watched. It gives you about 1.5 seconds to jump up, find your mouse, and click the "no-I-don't-want-to-watch-your-spoon-fed-video" button and if you aren't as fast as lightning it leaves the page and starts playing youtube's selected video and then you have to try to navigate back to where you were just to read more about the video you just watched.

Tubi is even worse. They throw up a huge popup window BEFORE the movie even finishes and if you don't jump up and click a tiny little target on the screen it CUTS OFF THE END OF THE MOVIE!!!

So, absent an adequate feedback mechanism at those websites...

"Fuck You" youtube and tubi.

I think every website should have a "fuck you" button on every page. Then whenever some marketing egghead decides to add some irritating feature or noxious algorithm in an attempt to increase "engagement," you can just hit the button and move on to the next site.

(fav'ing the mask-wearing, not you being sick :ablobthinking: )

@BobKerns

They could play flag football (no tackling).

I don't know what "male sports" are, but if we're getting rid of some of them, I think boxing would be one we could do without.

@BobKerns

This is so much a non-issue. Just organize sports so the girls and boys play on teams together. Done.

I text searched that very long page for "note" and manually scanned the new features section and damned if I can find it.

@Romaq @freemo

@Romaq

I didn't see anything come up in notifications or any of the feeds. I didn't notice anything on my profile page or in direct messages.

I scanned the SW documentation at docs.joinmastodon.org and didn't see the feature mentioned there.

I guess I could just use it and use coded language so in case anybody sees it, it won't embarrass anyone.

@freemo @obi

@Romaq

I don't remember ever seeing that note feature. It doesn't show up when you open a profile in a new tab. I almost always open profile pages in a new tab because I like the way it formats that way.

When you type text into that note feature is that something that is visible to everyone publicly or is it visible to the person whose profile you post it to? Or is it only visible to me?

re complexity... Yeah, that's always a problem in SW development, feature bloat. Sometimes, especially with SW that's been around a while and updated a lot, you can change it in a way that actually makes it easier to use while adding new features, but that usually takes quite a bit of creativity and UI experience.

Of course Fedi has the inherent complexity of the structure itself.

@rdaily

When I first saw this toot in the local feed here, I thought it was some kind of toy simulation, but now that I read some of the verbiage on the box, I see that it's the real deal!

@obi

I just recently learned how widely this whole stupid theory is -- they try to make it seem scientific. It really is fascinating as a social phenomenon. UFO believers is another one. And of course all the nonsense coming from the maga folks.

I'd like to see a study done on these people where they put them into a fMRI to determine exactly how many are just playing along with the hoax and how many actually believe it.

@obi

Apparently the guy who made the documentary said he did it in part to make people think about beliefs that they may be clinging to.

It's easy to make fun of such silly beliefs, but I've seen this same kind of stuff happen in quantum physics -- scientists clinging to their theories in the face of new evidence.

Here's a short (<1min) video made from the film "Behind the Curve", a documentary about Flat Earthers.

This clip shows a Flat Earther doing an experiment to attempt to prove that the Earth is flat, but instead he proves that the Earth is round. His reaction is priceless.

(The documentary is 95 mins, but I don't think I'd waste anymore time on it than this short 1min. video.)

@freemo

Open discussion, that's what it's about...

Note to self...

When tooting it may seem fair
to write with a little more flair

Like putting a rose in your hair
just to get folks to stare.

But no need to embellish your prose
like the guy with the big red rose.

Just say what you mean to say
if it connects, then they’ll say hey,

That really hit the spot
I really like that a lot.

So no need to confuse
with big words that bemuse

you can shorten it a lot
and use simple mused jot.

>"...WF are much more than just higher character limit which I pointed to in my post."

You're free to use any website you want, as long as they let you.

@freemo

@farooqkz

>"I have a personal or religious belief which is considered hate-speech. Is it okay to express that?"

No, that's not okay. Talk about something else and be nice.

@BobKerns @freemo @tonic

@peterdrake

If you have time, you can use just about any wire to charge the battery -- you don't need bulking jumper cables as long as the current isn't too high, or as @antares says you can use a 12V wall wart to charge it overnight enough to get the ICE engine going which will charge the 12V up.

Also, check the water level in the battery cells (If it allows that). Sometimes, if the electrolyte level is low and you add some distilled water, that's enough for it to work.
