@freemo I now have the git repository local. The Git GUI doesn't show me branches and changes, so I did it wrong. OF COURSE. But that's ok, my opportunity to learn, and being able to see changes would be more useful, I'd think. I'll post my message where the issue is already being discussed if there is anything it would contribute at that point.

@freemo Yeah, I just need to get moving to recover from work. Gawd this thing keeps moving and I want to follow what's going on while I'm doing what I really ought to be doing instead.

@Ryle Thank you. I missed seeing this before I posted a suggestion about it, but I was intent I not lose the thought I had at that moment. My current situation has me hella distracted to where I'm setting alarms for myself so I don't miss going to the loo when I need to.

I'll jump in there once I've shed my work funk off.

@freemo At the moment I'm flailing, but I'm not yet in a position to edit and I want to get this thing out of my head: "... communicating disrespect targeting a person's identity rather than their character. This behavior would often be characterized as (but not limited to) racism, sexism... (extend definitive list, avoid "hate speech" as a phrase.. and again "including but not limited to" is a wonderful phrase to use.)

TRUST ME, when I interact with flat earthers, I get mighty cranky and I'm sure they could label it as "hate speech." But I'm clearly not attacking their identity, just their bloody-minded stupidity.

@freemo I have "Git GUI Here" installed, but I usually use "Git BASH" for updating Spigot. Yay, the time when I know what something does and how it works, but I get to figure out how to use it practically on some other project!

For my part, My current finances are in the position of "I have no idea what an extended family situation is going to cost me personally yet."

If I could, I'd run the current document through Grammarly's paid subscription and have it make suggested changes for exactly that... "passive vs. active" tone, various other changes based on a "business proposal" setting. I *think* it has one like that. Maybe. I simply can't do it, and I could only hope someone on this list is already paying for Grammarly (or a product like it) already so it isn't an extra expense to them.

*I* don't write proposals of any sort as a profession. But I'm confident someone has a meat-grinder for it while we work on making this sausage.

So energizing to see all this activity after just a few hours of launching the United Federation of Instances repo.

gitlab.com/ufoi/constitution

We already have 7 discussions going on and 2 merge requests for the proposal... The more people keep getting involved the more energy I have to put more into it. Cant wait to finish a draft of the bylaws.

@ufoi

@freemo

I can't track down the proper message mentioning the hashtag, but it may be useful to make sure UFO Investigators (or some other interesting entity) doesn't already make use of #\UFOI to an extent it would be a problem. I think would be much less a problem. I wouldn't know. Checking may be useful.

I wish I could afford a meat grinder using APA. I'd put in the beef and have nice, low-fat ground burger patties come out the other side, ready to cook and eat.

Unfortunately, I don't know if such a beast exists at *ANY* price. Maybe grammarly.com/plans can do some on the "free" side. I'll have to look at that tomorrow.

So much life comes so fast, and it's annoying this project becomes necessary in the first place. What's this compulsion for humans to act so human?

Well ... at least the law enforcement involved won't have to sweat anything interesting coming out of a trial of a former Virginia state trooper.

All I can think about is going totally nerd-rage on him. I'm not sure I would have as a student at that age. I might have.

All hell wouldn't stop me at my age now, 50+.

Trans Ally musings

I think about @georgetakei's "You can pee next to me" as referenced here: shortyawards.com/1st-socialgoo.

Takei can say that, as he is outspoken and a well-known part of the LGBTQ community. I, however, am a "nobody" and I'm quite content with that. And for *ME* to say it, it sounds on my ear, "creepy dude." I tried it in my head trans-fem, trans-mask, non-binary... nope... "creepy dude" echos in my head. I have the positive, affirming sentiment supporting identity and affirming agency. Just not the gravitas or established identity within the LGBTQ community to pull that particular phrase off.

And to me, that's ok. I *DO NOT WANT* actual "creepy dudes" stalking people, leering at them with, "Hey... you can pee next to me! Heh-heh... heh-heh-heh!" Uhm... no. HELL no! I'm glad for the opposition to the bathroom laws and how Takei handled his role in the opposition.

So much as I am with Mastodon, I avoid proselytizing. By that, I mean... I'm not going to people "preaching" Mastodon, how they should be on it, The Bird Site is a hellscape they should leave RIGHT NOW! Nope, that ain't me. I'm happy to talk about it, but it's not how I'd choose to start a conversation. Same for LGBTQ. "Hey, I'm a cis-white male but I support you as an ally and can we be friends?" Nope... Just... "creepy dude."

Now if I encounter someone trashing LGBTQ, I have friends and a bit of family in that community. And I'm inclined to jump in with both boots going for the neck. I don't know what it's like to be LGBTQ. I know what it's like to be "different," apparently to EVERYONE, and just not good enough. I had that from my natural father. I had that from churches. I had that in the US Military. I hated that I was so damned "odd" somehow until I learned to accept myself, my sense of humor, my view of life, who I am, and what I have to say. I'm a work in progress. I'm growing. But I have identity, I have agency, I have freedom of conscience, and I have a right to these. How is it possible anyone would see fit to deny this to any other human soul? And yet they do, and I see that. But not around me.

Anyway, I can't think of any cool catchy phrases to communicate. Best I can do is just be myself. I watch for opportunity to spread kindness and support, and I act as a voice where I can for those who are being stripped of their voice. I gotta be me.
