@freemo
..numbers seem pretty bleak from here. 😔
Mastery is so rare, then?

@freemo Wow, wonderful!
Imagine that, to be able to learn about ancestors going so far back. Luckily they were prominent, and figure in the registers and history text.
More common folks can't be traced so well, I imagine. Church records, but these are fragile and you might lose track easily. Congratulations, this is impressive.
@susi123 Those kitties are so pretty. Oooowww. 😺
@realcaseyrollins Hablas Español tambien?
Qué rico! 😉
@amiablenectar Ah, hello and welcome. 😸
Enjoy the network and all it has to offer. If you are new to using Mastodon, there's a good guide here: https://lifehacker.com/a-beginner-s-guide-to-mastodon-1828503235
Have a good day!
*hello?*
@freemo And he lived to 92 years old, in that time that's so rare. Wonderful.
@freemo That is so neat. To be able to trace your ancestor's history that far back, and that he probably had a very interesting life. Wow.
💚
@freemo @sda Rusty Latin, had to go look it up. Wiki has it: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ad_hominem
Quick quote:
"Ad hominem, short for argumentum ad hominem, typically refers to a fallacious argumentative strategy whereby genuine discussion of the topic at hand is avoided by instead attacking the character, motive, or other attribute of the person making the argument, or persons associated with the argument, rather than attacking the substance of the argument..."
I don't remember seeing this type of thing, sda.
Wouldn't want to get myself involved into it either. Feel free to use the Report button and let Staff know; or intervene in the thread and point that out, if you don't mind the possible reaction.
@mitchsotelo Well, that was good advice. Welcome to Qoto, Mitch. 😄
I have been here for less than a month, but it's been great fun. The intellectual stimulation from all the random content and discussions we get involved in, wonderful.
Facebook is a repetitive, annoying place. Twitter has more random content, but also a big number of nasties acting there, including paid troll farms, some abroad.
I imagine there's probably some in the US as well, it would be a great way to create employment in the dispossessed regions in mid country.
Have you used Mastodon before? I would recommend a good guide if you want to get familiar on how things work here:

Nice job on the user profile. A suggestion, feel free to hit Enter a couple of times and create a paragraph break anytime you want -- Unlike FB, it will not send the message away.
Would make for easier reading.
Any questions, please feel free to ask. ![]()
Yes, I think Jeff said it well - the fist step in the road to improvement is to recognize there's a lot more to learn.
So don't despair, and be happy you have the curiosity to seek this knowledge. You will have a better understanding, do better work as a result of the learning you acquire.
The course you described above sounds excellent. I had programming courses ages ago, as part of my first year Engineering curriculum, but don't feel qualified to point the way into a scientific approach to education deeper into computer science.
I agree fully with your insight that the concepts should come before learning a specific language; or be taught along with the language, as a way to practice and produce test code.
Glad to see you engaging in this fascinating journey, Karl. Go for it!

@micrackbiron
It is interesting to see, things change a lot from the ones I have visited. Climate, landscape, local culture, foods.
I enjoyed collecting States on a long bicycle tour. From Ontario on to NY, then Pennsylvania, Maryland, West Virginia, DC.
Really enjoyable, there are two large, long cycling trails on this route. GAP and C&O Canal trail, a national park.
Many people take them from DC to Pittsburgh, PA, or vice versa. Lots of fun, free camping in many places.
Ah, nice, there's a lot of places to explore here, I barely know a bit of the country.
Wast thinking of @pea above, mentioning travel but limited to continental USA. Not so, if driving, you can extend into the beautiful True North.
Yours to Discover! 😉
You can enter Canada, if by a land crossing, using an Enhanced Drivers License. Easier and cheaper than a full passport.
Travel to Canada by air will require a full passport though. A demand imposed by Homeland Security years ago. (and which Canada reciprocates)
@bhaskarrijal Good here, Bhaskar.
Kind of quiet day, everyone out shopping their wallets out, it's BlackFriday in North America, madness goes on to Monday, CyberMonday. 😛
I did some chair shopping myself too, but it's frustrating to find a great deal, then there's no stock to be had. Ugh... 😞
Wanted a smaller sized laptop, for a decent price. Found the HP Elitebook 12" model, perfect, lovely. No stock, drove yesterday to check open box at nearby town, sold out too.
