"Is Google Making Us Stupid?
What the Internet is doing to our brains"
An important read. Take your time, turn off distractions - and work thru it. Worth it! RG
"I can feel it, too. Over the past few years I’ve had an uncomfortable sense that someone, or something, has been tinkering with my brain, remapping the neural circuitry, reprogramming the memory. My mind isn’t going—so far as I can tell—but it’s changing. I’m not thinking the way I used to think. I can feel it most strongly when I’m reading. Immersing myself in a book or a lengthy article used to be easy. My mind would get caught up in the narrative or the turns of the argument, and I’d spend hours strolling through long stretches of prose. That’s rarely the case anymore. Now my concentration often starts to drift after two or three pages. I get fidgety, lose the thread, begin looking for something else to do. I feel as if I’m always dragging my wayward brain back to the text. The deep reading that used to come naturally has become a struggle."

@susi123 Nice to have a friend to sit close by.
@Rovine @mngrif @freemo I love a larger screen for reading, but for travel as smaller model is nice, more compact and less weight. My son uses a Dell XPS 13 for all his work, they are nice and well built. He runs linux on it.
Just received a box with my new toy, a Thinkpad X230 travel laptop. Off lease, they are suprising affordable and well built.
@surasanji @freemo Two large Chinooks.
Does the Netherlands fly them? or NATO, more possibly?
@mngrif TY, wonderful photo!
@susi123 I read and liked some of his books. Great writer.
grief and loss
Yes, I am sorry for your loss, Duncan. I lost my two beloved cats, my companions, within a six month period. The house long felt empty without them, and I am still not ready to get other #Cats .
Visiting the local cat adoption shop is nice but I have to leave soon, emotions.
They left a painful state, and hopefully went on to a better place. RIP, Abby.
@atet Lovely small vehicle!
" Bond Minicar 1948 Origin UK
Engine 122 cc, one-cylinder Top speed 38 mph (61 km/h) Bond’s three-wheeler Minicar was cheap to run, inexpensive to tax, and could be driven by anyone who had a motorcycle license. The simple design featured an air-cooled motorbike engine that pivoted with the front wheel and had no reverse gear."

Young people today are getting a raw deal, my own kids included. So I have lots of sympathy.
But consider what some other generations copped with, and it might help.
People living during the 1930s, a huge Depression. No jobs, no Welfare state, no jobs for many.
See also "Grapes of Wrath". https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Grapes_of_Wrath
The whole decade was tragic and difficult.
Then a World War ensued, and many of the young people who lived thru the Depression years are now called in to serve and fight overseas. Many never returned.
The two experiences marked them, and their character for life.
A good book about it? "The Greatest Generation"
@_lunawinters Was it you who set a limit, or the site/app itself?
Wouldn't know, as I completely ignore insta.
@_lunawinters It's getting difficult to concentrate on a task requiring some time, even if you enjoy it.
If you have the patience and can stick to it, here is a great read on that - article from The Atlantic, one of my favourite publications.

@pylix pipelines linking different small tools are a wonderful Unix idea.
Way to go.
@mngrif Ah, I see. Discard Changes, without removing current tags. But, too wordy for a dialogue box.
Haven't done any tag edits in ages. Fubar2000 has it built in, but I used another editor for most things.
long - links to PinePhone project
Don't know what model name is, but saw a new folding model, similar to their classic Rzr models and it was pretty nice. People were commenting being surprise to see them coming in with a Flagship level device after all these years and being sold on and on.
Have you heard about the PinePhone? A new device that will run straigh linux or some form of unix. Not android, no google apps or spying or framework.
https://www.pine64.org/pinephone/
"An Open Source Smart Phone Supported by All Major Linux Phone Projects
Perhaps you’re in a line of work where security is a must, or a hard-core Linux enthusiast, or perhaps you’ve just got enough of Android and iOS and you’re ready for something else – the PinePhone may be the next Phone for you. Powered by the same Quad-Core ARM Cortex A53 64-Bit SOC used in our popular PINE A64 Single Board Computer, the PinePhone runs mainline Linux as well as anything else you’ll get it to run.
The purpose of the PinePhone isn’t only to deliver a functioning Linux phone to end-users, but also to actively create a market for such a device, as well as to support existing and well established Linux-on-Phone projects. All major Linux Phone-oriented projects, as well as other FOSS OS’, are represented on the PinePhone and developers work together on our platform to bring support this this community driven device. "
@mngrif Have a good day, it will be over and you have personal time waiting. Cheers bud.
@mngrif so who or what is Clementine? Some app, or person, or AI gone Rogue?
@mngrif Geez, hope things do get better. Living in North america is sometimes not that fun.
Then, Winter. 😞
@mngrif Semantically incorrect, you say? Seems fine to me, as the cancel will discard your current text.
