The Great Computer Programming Challenge
Jesus and Satan have an argument as to who is the better programmer. This goes on for a few hours until they come to an agreement to hold a contest with God as the judge.
They set themselves before their computers and begin. They type furiously, lines of code streaming up the screen, for several hours straight.
Seconds before the end of the competition, a bolt of lightning strikes, taking out the electricity. Moments later, the power is restored, and God announces that the contest is over. He asks Satan to show his work. Visibly upset, Satan cries and says, “I have nothing. I lost it all when the power went out.”
“Very well,” says God, “let us see if Jesus has fared any better.”
Jesus presses a key, and the screen comes to life in vivid display, the voices of an angelic choir pour forth from the speakers.
Satan is astonished. He stutters, “B-b-but how?! I lost everything, yet Jesus’ program is intact! How did he do it?”
God chuckles, “Everybody knows… Jesus saves.”
@realcaseyrollins@mstdn.social
and I checked in and added a follow to Puniko - hers seems to be a nice Pleroma instance, with SO MUCH more than the vanilla masto with 500 chars Toots allowed (and unbending admins when you request some more)
Will visit and check out Facilities -- the front page has some hints of a good place to be!
* 60, 000 (60 Thousand!!) characters limit, take that, Eugen.
* choice of the Pleroma UI/Front End -or- the more mastodon user friendly Mastodon FE (which is the Elite Glitch-Social variety -- so lots of new and improved features compared to masto.social variety)
* As in ALL Pleroma instances, rich formatted text is a Human Right -- and I absolutely love the posts I have been creatign with #MarkDown at Glitch-social instances I have recently joined.
Another pinprick to Eugen, lol... Don't gimme what I want, I am out, friend.
Kudos, thank you and appreciation to Puniko!
Today I discovered and joined a new instance. Amazing how we cross paths and discover things at random points. Serendipity, is a Thing.
This instance is called Expired Mentality, RIP.
Source of the name? I will quote :
" yep, thanks to hysterical Gab dev for this name. https://youtu.be/TveK9Sfwtvo?t=96 "
LOL.... 😜

* How To Write A Blog Post People Read *
by Rachel Thompson, @BadRedheadMedia

"Unsure how to structure your blog posts? Here’s a quick guide to get you started!
Writing a blog post people will read isn’t rocket science, yet it does take some skill. As I work with writers new to blogging, many are stumped by how to go about structuring a blog post."
A nice read, recommend it for anyone interested in writing and blogging in special. Thank you, Rachel!
@design_RG Well I hope you leave your profile behind as an alt at least.
To see you leave for good would truly be the end of an era 😳
30 Days Notice....
Banned for Markdown Love, and getting it.
Various places offer it, right now.
Moving, it's not a Rent unpaid issue, just general dissatisfaction with Mastodon's lack of features, slow evolution. etc.

* Memories - Starting in Computing, in the 70's *
* Programming, can be Fun or Frustrating
A recent conversation, which started naturally once I saw Klimi's post - https://qoto.org/@k11m1/104185799277317896 :
> *sigh*.... Why code can't run without errors on the first go....
My response to this simple statement was a long reply -- https://qoto.org/@design_RG/104186568289439361 , which I thoroughly enjoyed writing, and now forms the body of this page.
As usual, I love Writing, and this is Long Form prose. Lavishly illustrated, References and links included. A Web Magazine page I am proud of.
That is the Topic of today's Blog --> https://write.tedomum.net/rgx/memories-starting-in-computing-in-the-70s .
*This post is dedicated to @absturztraube@fedi.absturztrau.be and the FAB community -- https://fedi.absturztau.be/ , so were so gentle and welcoming when I joined FAB yesterday.*

@zleap I would suggest a better course.
* a simple graphics editor is a Must Have tool for any serious contributor. Along with a nice Text editor and a good file manager, so we can store and retrieve things with ease, organize and all.
Tools that I use and suggest -- Keep in mind that I am a seasoned Windows Server admin, and love #Windows10; not productive at all in Linux, although I recognize Unix is tops.
All recommendations are for Windows platform. Equivalents for other O.S.es abound.
* Image Editor -- the wonderful Irfanview does it for me. All. The. Time. Simple and powerful. Free. Does software get any better than that simple description?
https://www.irfanview.com/ for details and downloads. Get the Plugins package there too!
* Text Editors - these are like Religions, and equally charged discussions will come alive when what's best is discussed. Without opinions offered on others, EditPad Lite is the one I use and recommend.
* File Manager -- essential, can't live without it. Used various over the past 30 years of intensive life in Computing. Nowadays the Windows 10 Explorer is good and daily used here.
Excellent ones can be found and used. Honours mention to MultiCommander, I use the x64 bit version.

#FediReporter ToolKit explained. Blog post upcoming!
And a reminder to any readers, local here at Qoto or remote, anywhere, that if you have a Git account, you could consider commenting in this Suggestion if you found the proposal worthwhile.
Explained in detail in the Git submission, and in more layman terms in our Discourse Forum topic here :
If you feel this is a worthy cause --> Your support of the suggestion would be appreciated.
Thank you!
#rgxJournal for Better #UI #UX in Fediverse.
And today's Web Magazine topic will be...
Already written, and just begging for publishing.
@design_RG @hansw @globcoco Yeah; for me, joining an instance with a good community, finding good locals to follow, and following people who engage with them has helped keep my timeline busy without a whole bunch of unwanted content like porn popping in my feeds. I very rarely use the Public Timelines anymore, save at night when I'm looking for new users who are across the globe.
Update :
I have just finished posting a new Suggestion issue at Glitch-Social's Github.
...which summarizes the findings I described in a Forum post, and requests consideration of the idea of adding these enhancements into the Glitch-Social code base.
Forum post : https://discourse.qoto.org/t/mastodon-screen-use-in-wide-screen-displays-a-search-for-better-results/280
If that was done, and the source for Eskuero's Collapsed Mastodon is available for review and adoption, all users could benefit, without the need of using an add-on, and better compatibility with future releases as changes are made.
The Suggestion is on this page. https://github.com/glitch-soc/mastodon/issues/1359
....and a question was asked recently, in our Discourse Forum. Right on my popular "Discover Pleroma" topic.
>> Is Pleroma still a thing and can there be a QOTO version of Pleroma?
Yes.
There's Work in Progress, a Qoto-Roma so to speak (being creative here, might not stick).
>> I have an account on QOTO and I want the Pleroma interface.
You would get it, as #Pleroma comes with two front end or User Interface options -- details in the post bellow!
>> Wondering if there is a ‘best of both worlds’ scenario there.
I am wondering too, as it's something I am getting adamant about.
Mastodon limitations are Intentional in some cases, and I am tired of waiting for progress.
I am charting my own course and sailing the seas, finding nice harbours and dropping in.
Won't stay using mastodon much longer, as I already have nice Glitch-Social and Pleroma accounts.
Hopefully it will happen here too, as I have a lot invested in this instance, my main account.
Pleroma project at Qoto ? Details in this post :
