Ever wonder why people claim men are responsible for more violent crime than women? Ever think maybe it is because when a woman is violent people dont even see it as violence. The same behavior from a man that would wind him up in jail, if committed by a woman is likely to just be idle amusement for onlookers. It certainly wont end in an arrest.

This isnt that different from the bias we see when talking about crime rates among minorities. Yes, they do show higher crime rates. But that is likely more about the discrimination against them then it is about their natural tendencies.

So there is this really cheezy movie from the 80's when i was a kid that has always been stuck in my head. I never remembered the name just the basic idea. There were a pair of glasses that let them see aliens that otherwise looked like humans.

I thought I'd never remember what the movie was, something i saw on tv in the middle of the night. But just now I saw an animated gif scroll past my feed witht he quote "Either put these glasses on or start eating that trash can".I suspected it might be the movie and now that i searched ont he quote I found it.

The movie was "They Live" and I am about to watch it!

So I heard someone repeat the narrative I heard many times that all mass shooters are straight white males. Never looked into it before, sounded legitimate since I can only recall white males as mass shooters in the news. So I decided to do some quick research.

To my surprise it is actually **less** likely for a white person to be a mass shooter than other races. Below is a breakdown of races of mass shooters and a breakdown of the races of the general population in the USA. As you can see the proportion of mass shooters who are white is smaller than the portion in the general population.

I want to be clear I am **not** using this in an attempt to make the false and incorrect claim that minorities are prone to violence, they are not. I am simply using it to debunk the myth of the white shooter.

Whats spinster's deal? Their website just mentions "radical feminism" but seems most of their posts are anti-trans, though admittedly pro-female of a sort too in some sense.

This seems very unusual for a feminist group. Do they have some sort of origin story that might explain the consistency in their lean or am i just jumping to conclusions?

I had an idea and a proposal for an anti-censorship cooperative among the free speech instances. It is just an idea, not sure if i support it yet. but would be curious to hear any feedback.. the idea goes something like this.

Any instance can get into the cooperative so long as they pledge to a few rules

1) personal suspensions and silencing is permitted.

2) Ban circumvention will not be allowed and enforced. If a person from one instance blocks someone and makes it clear they do not wish to be contacted, and a user creates another account to circumvent this personal block then that user will be banned.

3) no instance is allowed to suspend any other instance within the cooperative.

4) any server that suspends/blocks any instance inside the cooperative must be blocked/suspended by all other members of the cooperative in response.

5) any instance not following these rules will be kicked out of the cooperative.

The purpose here would be to ensure that any instance which has a policy of frivolously blocking other instances without due process or cause will be punished by loosing their voice throughout the larger federated community.
